Spenscot Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 I'm having issues with the fuel flow transducer in my M20S. It read perfectly for a while then went to 0.0 on both the Moritz gauges and EDM 730 with the engine running normally. I pulled the transducer with my mechanic and the turbine seems to spin freely. I've read on another thread that soaking it in carburetor cleaner can help with a sticky turbine but I'm not sure if that applies to my situation. Does anyone know if they can be repaired or refurbished or another route to go? Thanks Quote
carusoam Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 Some PP thoughts to help get started... If the paddle wheel is spinning, expect the magnets are not being sensed and/or counted. Since you have two different devices doing the counting it is probably a wire related to the sensor that is not doing it's job. Did it fail suddenly? Just stop working. Or has it been acting up over time? Sticky fuel related deposits and air or vapor bubbles in the fuel line are typical issues that this type of paddle wheel encounter. I am still not a mechanic. wpbarnar Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 Any error messages when you first power up or use the test function on the display? Quote
Shadrach Posted February 2, 2016 Report Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) If you're going to soak it, soak in Hoppe's #9 gun solvent. Given yours has a K-factor of 29,000, I would research the possibility of replacing with a Flowscan unit (I think they're the manufacturer for Shadin); They should be inexpensive compared to the Shadin part. Spenscot Posted February 2, 2016 Author Report Posted February 2, 2016 Thanks for the input guys. It did stop working suddenly. The gauge worked perfectly on start up and first takeoff, then went 0.0 on both units before my second takeoff. I aborted and taxied back to the hangar. Then i shut down and restarted and it remained on 0. Quote
co2bruce Posted February 9, 2016 Report Posted February 9, 2016 We are the same hanger, found it after we purchased a new one..... Duh Quote
