flyer7324 Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 I'm seeking a set of front headrests to match seat frames from a 1967 M20E or similar. I'm re upholstering the seats and the seat backs have to posts to receive the headrests already. Just need them for the frames so I'm not concerned with the condition of the upholstery. Thanks!!! clh Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 I have heard that some Toyota headrests will fit..... Might want to check out a auto salvage. Quote
carusoam Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 Use the search function. You can find some interesting details like this one... best regards, -a- Quote
kmyfm20s Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 I made some for my last J pretty easy. It just required tin snips, drill, pop rivet gun and hacksaw for tools. 2 aluminum hollow rods and aluminum sheet per seat. I put the rods in the seat and taco'd the aluminum sheet over them and pop riveted it to place. The upholsterers did the rest. Quote
flyer7324 Posted December 16, 2015 Author Report Posted December 16, 2015 Help me with the lingo. Taco'd the aluminum sheet? Please explain. Thanks! Quote
kmyfm20s Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 Imagine a taco shell with 2 post coming from the center at 90 degrees. The sheet of aluminum is pop riveted on one side, then wrapped over the end of the rods/tube and then riveted to the opposite side. Hope that helps. Quote
Yetti Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 For the $90 the Toyota Tacoma ones are going for on ebay. I would taco some alum sheet too. The stock Money ones are a stainless tube bent into a U shape. There is a pocket of leather on the cushion that goes over the U. Quote
Houman Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 You can do what I did, If you already have the tubing already, just go to a scrap yard and find one that the poles fit in the tubes and then have your seat upholster cover them. Mine cost about 50$ total and was done by the person who did my seats... Cheap and functional... Quote
kmyfm20s Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 When I get to my other computer tonight I might be able to find some pictures. It's really easy to do. Airtex made the head rest cushion and leather cover, its just the standard ones they make, no special instruction. The foam cushion has a slot in it that is offset so it projects forward and it glues to the flat aluminum area. Then the cover is stretched over it. You would never know it home made except that the poles are not chrome which doesn't ever show because they are inserted all the way. Quote
flyer7324 Posted December 17, 2015 Author Report Posted December 17, 2015 A trip to the local junk yard and 10 bucks got me two Toyota Corolla headrests which after stripped of the upholstery will do the ticket. FYI Wentworth wanted 125/each! Quote
Wakeup Posted December 17, 2015 Report Posted December 17, 2015 I brought my seat to a junk yard and walked around trying out different head rests until I found the one I liked. All of them fit differently. I wouldn't want to just buy a set on eBay. I think I paid $20 for the pair. Troy Quote
