Need an instructor experienced with a long body near Shelby, NC.  Roughly 25 miles east of Charlotte.  

Rusty Private Pilot looking at an Ovation 3 with Garmin glass.  Will need need an Instructor for the Ferry ride home and 15 hrs of dual for insurance.  Any recommended candidates?  

The Plant Manager finally said I could have an airplane so need to move before she changes her mind!  Could be that the new grand daughter several hours away had some bearing on the decision...

Brandon Nesmith at Hickory is great. Tablerockaviation.com.  

The guys at compass aviation in Shelby probably know someone too.

Also, you probably need to brush up on your map reading skills as I believe Shelby is west of Charlotte! :)

Shelby is indeed west of Charlotte. Ha ha. I said I was rusty!  It has been a long day.

If you don't find anyone local, I'm very familiar with Ovation 3 and G1000 but I live a bit farther north.  If it comes down to locals not being available, please let me know.  An airline ticket would be required for me both ways so I understand I'm not the first option.  Feel free to also review them on this website...

+1 on our friend Brandon NeSmith who works out of KMRN as well as KHKY. He's flying jets for Comcast(?) now but still does instruction and ferrying as well. Has a lot of Mooney experience.

Have you already found a Ovation 3?   I had my 2006 Ovation 2 upgraded with GFC700 and WAAS on the market with a broker.  The listing just expired, so I'm able to pass along the additional savings to a willing buyer.  Please let me know if you'd like details on my plane.

Toymaker, I don't know if you know that Mike is a very experienced Mooney instructor who is often called on to ferry Mooneys. He works out off FL but is not limited to his home area. If Brandon is unavailable I would recommend you talk to Mike about getting your plane "home" and possibly working with you on an intensive transition program.

Thanks for all of the responses.  I appreciate the help.

I've already touched base with some of the folks that have been recommended and I'm sure I can get something worked out when I'm able to know exactly what I'm doing.  

My schedule is making it difficult to get out to look at the candidates. I've narrowed the field of planes to just a few, but haven't made a decision on a particular one as yet.  Since they are scattered all over the country, taking a quick look can require a couple of travel days.  Coordinating with owners, brokers, and shops that can do a pre-buy is difficult due to the holidays.

Hopefully, will have things under control soon.
