47U Posted November 20, 2015 Author Report Posted November 20, 2015 Beale was using RW 33, light NW winds. Pilot said it was smooth as glass.

cliffy Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 What's the only airplane flying that has a tail hinged the way our Mooneys do?

Are you suggesting that when Al was at Lockheed he influenced Kelly Johnson? Wouldn't that be something... Do the years he was there line up with U-2 development?
Andy95W Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 He went to Lockheed in 1955. Wikipedia says the U-2's first flight was also in 1955, so probably no collaboration. But definitely a case of great minds think alike.

Clarence I don't think the U2 was ever called over powered but incredible to watch those wings lift it into the sky
cliffy Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Could be he stole the idea from the U2 :-) Used to watch them leave KVNY in the 60s They were modified there in the big Lockheed hangars on the east side
