Last year I bought a Lycoming engine for my Mooney through Airpower. I honestly mostly picked them because they didn't charge me 10% California sales tax.:) The customer service was very good. This morning I got an email from them that they noticed the mags that came with my engine match the S/N for a SB and that I should initiate a warranty claim. That's pretty good customer service in my book.

I've only had good interactions with Airpower. On the other side of the operation, I looked at but did not buy an airplane they had for sale. Very professional and good operation from what I could see.

I ordered a re-built IO360A3B6 from them last week. Ship date 10/6.

Did you previously have an A1A engine? I've heard that some people were having a hard time finding the STC to run the A3B6 in a pre-J. My previous engine was an A3B6 so I had a ModWorks STC but I think they're gone now.

Airpower claims their markup is pretty small (a couple hundred dollars per engine). But they really went to bat for me. My previous engine had an un-contained failure so I had very little usable parts. Normally that would require me to pay an addition $25K in core charge. Since my last engine was a mid-time factory new (not overhaul, not remain) they got Lycoming to agree to take my remains for most of the core value.

I would have loved to have seen their face when I returned the engine. The FSDO supervised the tear down locally some of which required destruction. I ended up with a combination of seized parts and bags of small pieces. The case halves were in quiet a few pieces. :) Even the crank and cam had chunks missing. Plus I gave them a bowl of shreddings the engine made for them.
