N601RX Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Does anyone have any experience with the selant used in replacing the side windows. I believe PR-1422 B-2 is specified. From the research I've done this appears to be a very expensive fuel tank sealant. It this what other poeple have been using? Does it dry hard or remain soft and pliable? Also it is a 2 part adhesive. Does anyone know the work time once the parts are mixed?
carusoam Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 LP aero plastics give several choices, from tapes, to silicone, to urethane....Including the B2 2 part Polysulfide (2hour work time). http://www.lpaero.com/accessories.html B2 info from LP site: This sealant meets Military Specifications - MIL-S-8802Interchangeable sealants: Courtaulds Aerospace - Pro-Seal 890B, PR-1440B, PR-1487D Aircraft Products - BR4005BFlamemaster Corp - CS3204BAdvanced Chemistry and Technology - MC-236BFiber Resin Corp - PS-1102BJ & R Industries - WS-8020B My M20c replacements were done with silicone. No known issues. -a-
Piloto Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Look also into marine type sealants. Many of them are designed to seal thru hull fittings such as depth sounders transducers. I can't imagine anything more demanding for a water sealant. José
Immelman Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 I am in the process of replacing all my windows now. My A&P is using flamemaster 3330 B2. This is the same sealant used for most of the fuel tank access panels as it is pliable once set. The "B2" gives you the working time: 2 hours. I think he said it is $13 for each tube. So far, we've used two tubes doing all the side windows and will use another doing the wind shield (actually we had plenty left over in each of the two tubes so far, but we did the side windows 2 at a time). http://www.flamemaster.com/TechnicalsPDF/CS3330B05-2008.pdf
