Picture #3... it looks like the drain hose on the bottom of the airbox is missing. There's a straight nipple welded to the bottom of the airbox towards the aft end. It points down and forward towards the grommet in the lower cowling. There should be a short piece of hose on the nipple that drains excess fuel in the airbox through the hole and onto the ramp. It prevents a fuel from accumulating inside the cowling.

+1

Nice catch. And the pictures of the damage show why the hose is supposed to be there.

UPDATE: My poor man's engine heater worked! Since every single store around here is sold out of heaters, I went ahead with 2 150watt bulbs stuffed into the cowl flaps. They ran all night with a blanket over the engine cowling and kept the oil temp at 45 degree. Here is what I did today:

-fuel pump on

-Pumped throttle 3 times

-pump off

-rotated the prop 3 times

-pumped throttle 2 more times

-wait 30 seconds

-crank

The engine started within 3 turns on the first try. Keep in mind the temp outside was 16 degrees today. I'm still planning on installing a sump heater at the end of the year during the annual but this will do for now.

Your damage doesn't look too serious, though, from looking at the pictures. With a few parts, your mechanic should be able to fix you up in short order. Good luck and fly safe.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll get it resolved.

Any idea what the CHTs were prior to start?

You are officially in the running for The CB award of the day!

Had you intentionally gone with one bulb to save some dough...

Best regards,

Unfortunately my CHT gauge is inop at the moment. I took a measurement of the ambient temp around the cylinder with a thermometer though and it was around 47 on both sides.
