RocketAviator Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 Here is one I thought everyone might not be aware of in the GA world! A Mooney M20C up for auction in Houston February 11 at 12 noon.
Seth Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 Curious why it is up for auction. Do you think it has corrosion in the wing spar? Alan - if you were to part it out after a quick visual inspection, how much would be too much? Is it worth 10,000 unkown condition? $5,000? If it's okay, would someone buy it, get it annualed, fly it for a year, and then sell it? Have a plane really cheap? From the 10 foot photo, it looks good. If parted out, what do you make on a C? Do you think there are logbooks? Do you think they'll let you look in the inspection panels day of or just look around the aircraft but keep it all buttoned up. I'm really curious what it ends up going for. I have no interest in bidding. -Seth
Jerry 5TJ Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 per rbauctions.com https://www.rbauction.com/mooney?id=ci&s=Y2l8Tj0wJk50az1FcXVpcG1lbnQuZW4mTnR0PW1vb25leSZOdHg9 1963 MOONEY M20C 4 Seat Aircraft Lot #: 408 Houston, TX, USA Wednesday Feb 11, 2015 - Thursday Feb 12, 2015 Details: Hartzell, Lycoming, 180 hp, MX300, US-8A, KX155, 3972 TTSN hrs showing, 413 SMOH hrs showing, new O & B bladders 12/2012 Sounds as if they have some of the airplane info, and perhaps the logs. I will stick with the devil I know.
rbridges Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 also, that plane has the off brand O&B bladders instead of the more trusted O&N. where else did they cut corners? 1

Come on down RA. There's a BBQ joint on the field at Weiser. I'll buy you lunch then maybe we can take the C around the pattern for a spin. No formation landings there though as the runway's only 40' wide. Cnoe
Alan Fox Posted February 10, 2015 Report Posted February 10, 2015 As a part out I would bid 10 to 12 , Engine prop bladders STEC NAV COMM and not much more off of this bird , Most of the metal is only going to fit 64 and earlier , so very limited on the part out .... Plus this Bird does not warrant parting out , as it can still pull 20 to 23 K as a flyer....If I read correctly , there are a fresh set of bladders , and a fresh annual on this one , They wont sell it for less than 20K as they just put about ten K into it......(unless its a bank or widow) ....
orionflt Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 A friend of mine took a serious look at this plane. the pics and logs looked good, but when a friend of his who was a previous FAA inspector and knows Mooneys looked at it this morning he found a few issues. first was it had been sitting for a few yrs and the control surface hinges were binding, next the interior was starting to fall apart and the gyros would not spool up. his thoughts were it would take 20K to bring it back up to speed. From the description I got I think that number was high but it definitely sounds like a project. the story i got was the owner bought it for his son who just got his PP, his son was scared of the planes so didn't fly it. they paid 40k and put about another 20k in upgrades before bailing on it..... it sold for 29K at the auction.
