rbuck Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Do you all know any site out there where you can put your logged flights on a map? I have people ask me every so often where all I've flown, and it'd be really cool to show a map with all the routes. Plus, it would be neat to have and build on to over time! There are a couple online I've tried, like Myflightbook and Openflights, but the main problem I keep getting is that our small general aviation airports aren't on there. Or some of them have the huge pin that they drop on the map that completely covers a portion of it. Any ideas out there? Quote
slowflyin Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Great idea! I'll start searching as well. Quote
Mooneymite Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 It's not an actual flight track, but it shows locations well: http://www.gcmap.com/ Just enter the airports separated by a dash, as in: http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=ga04-klax-kphx-ksat-myam-ga04 Quote
BorealOne Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Best way to do this is using electronic logbook software like LogTen - it will export to Google Earth so you can easily generate maps like this: 2 Quote
smwash02 Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 I use Logbook Pro and the "Route Browser" add-in. Attached are my flights from 2014 and what it shows you when you run it. It also has the ability to export to Google Earth to generate a better looking map. Quote
Jeff_S Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 This doesn't show routes, but it does allow you to log which airports you've visited and whether or not you were a pilot. Find it here at: http://www.ourairports.com. I'm not sure how active the developers are on this site, as it doesn't seem to have a revenue model that I can discern, but it's been around for as long as I've been flying and I still add airports to it because it keeps a nice list. It does have any GA airport you're likely to need in it. Quote
FloridaMan Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Do you want something that can show all routes from your logged flights like a spiderweb, or highlight states and/or airports that you've visited? I could probably throw something together pretty quickly for this. Would comma-delimitted work? Let me know what you're looking for. Example: 1/1/2015,KDCA,KJFK,1.0 1/2/2015,KJFK,KORD,2.0 Quote
rbuck Posted January 13, 2015 Author Report Posted January 13, 2015 I think the spiderweb looking thing is neat. Just something that gives a graphic depiction of what my logbook says. It's fun to keep for myself, but like I said, it's cool to show other folks when they ask about flying, too. Thanks for your thoughts guys! Quote
Hank Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 When people ask how far I've flown in my plane, I just tell them west to Yellowstone, north to Niagara Falls and south to Ft. Lauderdale. Most people know generally where these are. I also keep a list of airports that I've visited, but I'm not leaving the game right now to go look it up. Should be around 85 airports in 18 or 19 states, I forget. Quote
rbuck Posted January 17, 2015 Author Report Posted January 17, 2015 Do you guys know of anything like LogTen or Logbook Pro that doesn't cost a lot of money? GCMap is cool, but I don't think that I can save it to keep building onto. Quote
BoiseMooney Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Try flightmemory.com I have used it for commercial flights, but a quick test shows it has the small airports around me as well. Quote
