1964-M20E Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 I just saw this about wing boarding and it looks pretty cool. Might slow your Mooney down but you could then get 5 people to your destination maybe 6 if they make a two person wing board. When I was a young teenager we used to water ski often but given the price of gas at the time relative to wages we would ski behind the boat as we were traveling to our camp accomplish two things at once. This could work the same way. Though I’m not sure I’d want to be towed behind a plane for 3 hours. http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/2014/November/03/Sky-surfing-behind-your-favorite-airplane?WT.mc_id=&wtmcid;&WT.mc_sect=tec Quote
aviatoreb Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 If you are running this as a commercial operation, does it count as banner towing, sightseeing, parachuting, or perhaps general carriage? Quote
Gone Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 And not at 150 mph either. More like 50 or 60. Getting too close to stall for me. Ned Gravel Lucky steward of C-FSWR, a '65 E model at Rockcliffe, Ontario, (CYRO) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
bonal Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 Watched a video on AOPA'S site and its just in a model state. I for one would hate to have some thrill seeking nut pulling my tail up down and all around. just think of the effect a water skier has on the stern of a boat cant imagine the effect it would have on your CG. No Thanks! Quote

No Thanks! You are correct about the forces on the tail and on a boat and that is with the tow rope anchored near the engine and or rudder. We use to have fun just seeing how much we could move the back end of the boat while skiing. 1 Quote
aviatoreb Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 Why can't that surf wing then be self propelled say by 20 rc model sized electric motors - instead propelled by a tow rope? Quote
PaulB Posted November 8, 2014 Report Posted November 8, 2014 Wonder why he hasn't taken the full prototype up for a spin yet... Quote
rbuck Posted November 8, 2014 Report Posted November 8, 2014 Don't think I would want it on my Mooney, but it is a cool concept. Quote
bonal Posted November 8, 2014 Report Posted November 8, 2014 A couple of Yamaha KT100 motors would do the trick but you would have to have quite a pair to climb on and hit the throttle Yikes! Quote

Definitely shared expenses, but of course the guy without a seat doesn't have to pay his full % share. Quote
