So Bob, I am using Google, and am accessing it through Internet Explorer. When I installed Google Chrome, it was doing the same job as IE. In both cases I was using the search engine Google, just getting to it through different browsers.

So when someone asked what browser I was using, and I said Google, I was in error. I was actually using IE.

So the problem I was experiencing may have been in IE.

It is kind of a moot point, as my original problem is apparently solved in both browsers. But it is nice to have someone educating me so at least I can use the correct terminology.

Do I have it right so far?

Don, probably.

Google makes a search "engine", a very powerful concordance/index. (So do other companies, ther are thousands, mostly specialized, E.g. Bing, Yahoo, etc., but Google's is so pervasive that the name of the company has become a verb: To "Google" something means to use the Google search engine find something on the web.

There's also GoogleMaps and other products but their search engine is by far the biggest part of what they do. But for our purpose a search engine does not care what browser you are using. And after you find the site you want the search engine is not involved. In fact, if you type in the whole URL (uniform resource locator, i.e., web address) you don't need a search engine at all. Most browsers are prety smart and will complete a partial URL for you if it is one you've visited before or is a common URL. I do not believe a search engine is involved in that action.

Make sense?

I think so. But to relate this back to the original (now non-existent) problem, If neither the browser nor the search engine has an effect when you get to the desired site, my problem must have been either with the MS site, or my mouse/computer combination.

The browser's main function is as a "translation" engine to convert the HTML from the web page (e.g. Mooneyspace) into what you see on your screen.  That can include how your mouse interacts with various features of the page.  So, your browser (along with some little helper applications called plugins) can have a significant impact on how a particular web page functions.

As new types of features and functionality are designed into web pages older versions of browsers can have trouble translating the new instructions.  That will sometimes result in problems like you were having.  Google Chrome has an automatic updating feature which should help keep it up to date for you and possible avoid similar problems in the future.

Just when I think I might be figuring it out, someone a lot smarter convinces me I'm not. Thanks for the help.

For a comparison...

Use TapaTalk to access MooneySpace.

It will allow you to post pictures.

Then use an I device. With one IOS system you can use smiley faces easily, but newer IOS systems, not so much.

Two steps forward, one back...repeat,

Just think of your browser like a tv.  You control the tv but someone else sends you stuff to look at (tv shows or web pages).  Your old browser is like an old tube tv.  It does ok as long as the picture is square.  Suddenly someone changes the pictures to widescreen rectangles and your old tv doesn't have the ability to show the whole picture.  It does the best it can but you are still missing something.  Your new Chrome browser is like a new HD widescreen tv; it can show you the whole picture.  Nothing changed with your old tv.  It just couldn't keep up with the content that it was receiving.

The problem is they keep changing both the content and the browsers so it is a constant battle to keep up.
