Joe Zuffoletto Posted October 7, 2014 Report Posted October 7, 2014 90% of the time I fly my Acclaim between 13,000' and FL220. Prefer not to go above FL220 unless absolutely necessary. I've been up to FL240 twice to top weather. It's cold up there. My wife isn't bothered by anything but the cold. At FL180 and above we wear our pulse oximeters full time; down lower we take readings every time I switch fuel tanks. The best part of flying in that band of altitudes is the nearly complete lack of traffic. I can't remember ever getting a traffic call enroute while on flight following between Denver and NorCal/SoCal/Cabo, and the only planes I see are the jets far above me. My groundspeed records are 266KTS in the Encore and 278KTS in the Acclaim. Quote
chrisk Posted October 8, 2014 Report Posted October 8, 2014 One thing about flying with a turbo is the need for a proper oxygen mask. The cannula thing is great, until your sinuses act up. If your not breathing heavily through your nose, the cannula doesn't do any good. When that happens, its time to pull out the full mask. My wife refers to this as the Darth Vader mask, presumably because of the mike and occasional breathing sounds. Quote
Awful_Charlie Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 Is it time to start the 300 knot club of Mooneys or has that occurred on this site I have not found. My best personal one: Try http://www.groundspeedrecords.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=83&Itemid=1219 to really open your eyes! 1 Quote
Guitarmaster Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 From this point forward o think we should have a "slowest groundspeed" contest. 2 Quote
jlunseth Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 Yeah you need to read closely. In my book, a descent speed does not count and that's what some of those are. Descent speed depends in part on how fast you are willing to descend in fpm, and it is always momentary. Has not got alot to do with the actual performance of the aircraft. My best sustained cruise was 275 kts. going from KPIA to KFDK. Quote

aviatoreb Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 From this point forward o think we should have a "slowest groundspeed" contest. Good idea. In a Mooney? Or anything with wings. I want to put in 0 GS in a piper cub for my slowest ground speed entry, several years ago, at 1000AGL over my house one day with some pretty strong winds. I called my wife on the cell phone and said to get the kids and go outside and look up I'll be waiving at you! (I was not the pilot nor do I have a taildragger endorsement). Does this count as buzzing? Quote
carusoam Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 Your Garmin won't register negative groundspeed. It will assume your nose is pointing the other way! My training C152 liked to go backwards. It didn't have a GPS in it to photograph. Nor did I have a camera with me. Best regards, -a- Quote
Danb Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 Erik nope I'm near you my G1000 keeps the highest speed on one of the app pages merely 288 Quote
