Fuel quantity indicator and annunciator panel low fuel light

I'm just wondering, how is the low fuel light on the annunciator panel getting the info ?, from the fuel indicator or is it separate from the fuel gage ? Poh is very light on this subject.

Here is why I'm wondering, my right fuel quantity indicator never goes up more than 27 Gallons, even though I actually fill it up to the rim and check visually that it is maxed full, the needle doesn't go to F (Full 36 Gallons ), my left fuel indicator needle goes to F when filled to max, so I am guessing the right needle will need calibration, is that something hard or expensive to do by a mechanic ?

Also, I'm wondering if the indicator is not calibrated and not showing the last 9 gallons of fuel ( 36 - 27 ), then the light would come up even if there were actually more fuel than the 2 1/2 to 3 gallon of fuel remaining as stated in the PoH ?

Just wondering ?

Thanks !!!

Looks like the outboard fuel quantity sender is stuck. This is a common problem in Mooneys specially if the tank has been half empty or less for a week or more. With full fuel try pounding on with your hand on the bottom side of the wing just below the filler hole. If no success you may need to insert a hanger wire with a hook end through the filler hole to lift the sender float. In some instances the problem fix itself when taxing over a rough taxiway,

thanks José,I will try the banging thing, but as for the hanger wire, would I try that from the tank top filler hole or ?. I don't know about other mooneys, but mine has a clap that makes it actually really hard to see inside of the tank...

If someone has a picture of what the sender looks like, that would be awesome...

You should be able to see the outer fuel quantity transmitter by opening the fuel cap. Lift the arm with a piece of wire.
