A collapsing fuel hose?? I've seen rubber collapse inside hoses before.

One of the items on our suspect list is collapsing fuel hoses. We're going to remove them and check them more thoroughly, especiallly since replacement of all fuel lines forward of the firewall was done after the pre-purchase inspection.

 

So if I understand correctly...

1) Boost pump and tank switch brings FF back to normal...

Correct

2) we covered the usual fuel blockage and fuel leakage ares..

 

Yes, we did..

3) pump operations must be next

Okay, but why would tank switch make any difference? There's only one engine-drive pump and only one boost pump, both downstream of the tank selector valve. And what's the likelihood of a fuel pump failure being intermittent? We're planning a test that will measure the flow of each pump separately while the engine is running.

4) did we cover blocked tank vents?

 

We've talked about vapor lock; investigation so far shows unobstructed fuels vents on the wings and the vent holes right near the filler cap. Are you thinking about something else?

Does anyone know what the nominal fuel flow should be for the electric boost pump?

Perhaps there is loose sealant blocking the tank pickup. I have a video inspection camera. I think I would stick it in the tank and try to see what's going on in that area. Does the problem only happen on one of the tanks? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I opened up my tanks a few years ago and there was quite a bit of debree in the bottom of them. Especially in the inboard tank. I have bladders that have been in for about 20 years so it wasn't tank sealent.

Had the same trouble on take-off roll recently. IO360.  Selected full throttle everything sounded normal, fuel pressure good, rpm full, T's & P's good, airspeed alive, then nothing at roughly 45kts! Just quit. Rolled to a stop off strip. Pungent fuel odor. Rechecked everything and restarted normally (used flooded engine technique). Engineers found nothing.. Did full ground run and Flight Test - still nothing. Weird...

And where did the smell of fuel come from?

By the time you smell fuel, it usually has left blue stains at its origin...

We have had a few people write their experience of loss of power on T/O...

Do you have an engine monitor?

Are you still trying to determine what the cause of the loss of power was?
