Comatose Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 I bought my Mooney last week, and get it back from the shop Friday (hopefully) with the few pre-buy squawks fixed. I just got my PPL today. Obviously I need to do some transition training (From a Cherokee 180 to a 1966 M20C) but none of the instructors at my "home" airport have significant Mooney time. They're all happy to help, but I'd prefer to learn the mooney-specific tricks up front, rather than by trial and error. Does anyone know of a good instructor for this sort of thing in Northeast Ohio? I'll need to get a complex endorsement at the same time. Thanks! Quote
carusoam Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Let me be the first on MooneySpace to say congrats on the PPL and first Mooney in one week. (unfortunately, I can't help with your instructor request). Best regards, - anthony - Quote
Amelia Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Where in NE Ohio? I spent a lot of hours at Wayne County Airport, Wooster, where there were decent instructors, though not specifically Mooney experts. Quote
Hank Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Contact Clyde Whittenbrook in Barnesville, OH. He's the best Mooney mechanic around, been working on them since Al Mooney finished his first drawing. He may know someone in your area. Congrats on the purchase! I bought my C-model 6 weeks after gettin my PPL in Cessnas. Study your POH, and I strongly suggest making your own checklists. If nothing else, it will force you to go through everything closely several times. The important parts are speed control and descent planning. Have lots of fun in the process! Quote
fantom Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Wow....PPL and new Mooney in the same week. Congrats! Don't settle for a non Mooney specific instructor, and I agree, developing your own checklist based on your POH and avionics is an invaluable learning experience. Best of luck getting to know your new honey. Quote
jimlawjr Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 There are several Moonies that fly out of Skypark (15G) near Wadsworth, Ohio and instructors that own M20C and M20E. The names are John and Norma Gay - both instuctors and Wes Snyder. All three are very good instructors and know the airplanes well!! Jim Quote
Comatose Posted June 29, 2010 Author Report Posted June 29, 2010 I'm basing at Kent State (1g3) but I trained at Wadsworth airport (3g3) so I know Skypark, but haven't actually been there yet. An east side/west side thing, as far as I can tell. The airports are two miles apart... Jim that's exactly what I'm looking for, thanks! Do you know how I would best go about getting ahold of any of these? Quote
