Just wanted to provide an update on the installation of the ARI cowl mod on a 64 super 21.  Still have some painting to do, but that will come later.  Nice to have this classic bird back in the air!

Thanks for all the great comments...although this paint is 20 years old, frequent polishing and hangar life is helping to prolong its life.

I really wanted this mod, as I wanted to retain the avionics access panels. Prior to this cowl mod install, just completed STEC 40 to 50 upgrade, and GDL88 install. Time to fly!

The cost of the ari mod was 1500.00. I had to locate my own 201 2 blade spinner, as I have a McCauley prop(214), and they are not available any more from mooney.

Paid 400.00 for spinner and bulkhead assembly. Logged about 15 hours on the install, which included removal of a Lasar lower cowl closer. I had removed the prop and H1 governor for rebuild . The old H1 governor was not serviceable , so we installed a PCU5000.

Did the mod remove the doghouse? (not sure if the 64C even has a doghouse)

E not a C.  And I think some E's did have the doghouse, not sure.

Thanks for the correction. In 65-66, IIRC, Mooney changed the baffling in the E. I don't know if this mod created the doghouse or just changed it.

If this mod removes the doghouse AND lowers CHT temps then that is sufficient to go for it IMO.

MY 66 S#1120 HAS DOGHOUSE. No issues with temps. A&P did some repairs on doghouse shortly after I bought plane (tenish years ago) I have Laser lower cowl closure. Waiting on SabreMech...to give me a round inlet beauty of an option for NON-Lopresti AMU's :)

This 64E has a dog house, and the mod came with left and right mods that attach to the cowl. The left provides air for heater, the right proves cooling to an accessory, in this case, the alternator. I have a "plane&power alternator, which has an air inlet for cooling.

I will add that the mod has the option of placing shims between the starter gear and the bulkhead. This moves the spinner forward.

In my case, if the shims would have been required, I may not have continued. This is because of the effort required to change the prop bolts.

I see you did NOT do the newer ARI sandwiched version of the cowling. I am curious why not. I just did the sandwiched version on mine two months back and it turned out way better than expected and in the end was about the same amount of time to install as yours (not including the oil-cooler relocation mod and the landing light lens cover).
