RobertE Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 I've got a sporadically falling Stormscope and people in the know say it's a bad power supply. L3 that now owns the product line insists on a minimum of $2,300 or $3,300 as a minimum charge on a return (can't remember which, other than that both are ridiculous) and wonder if someone knows of an alternative? I just hate being victimized by an organization that, for purely rational reasons, would love to see all theses units go away (I bet that whenever anyone flies into a storm it's all the fault of that dang Stormscope). Does anyone know of some small time electrician who might look up the specs and attach the appropriate power supply?? Quote
Danb Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 Bob if I recall you had a few questions regarding flying IFR more importantly in and around TS. As mentioned in your previous thread I would at least get either yours repaired, replace it with another one I good working condition or get a new one. I gather you want to be cautious based on your prior comments therefore by replacing your equipment supplementing it with XM weather using your eyes for confirmation, trying to acquire as much info from ATC, flight watch etc. Then gather your experience to meet your level of competence you would be on your way to successful instrument flying. Establish your own minimums and goals continuing to adjustment on same. Having your ticket is your means to learn and gather the experience to successfully fly within the system within your own criteria. Keep asking quality questions this forum is full of very competent aviators willing and able to provide help. Have fun keep flying keep safe and never get...getthereitis Quote
carusoam Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 RobertE, you might want to try these guys... http://www.stormscopes.com/Stormscopes.html This was recommended at MS somewhere before. I copied it for future reference... I don't have any experience with them... Best regards, -a- Quote

MooneyBob Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 I know it is a different device but just to compare I got my Strikefinder / power supply repaired. Insight charges flat bench fee $400, parts around $20 and 2 day shipping. All together around $450. Very happy. Quote
RobertE Posted July 20, 2014 Author Report Posted July 20, 2014 Someone asked what model. It's a WX-1000 that is slaved. Www.stormscopes.com looks ideal. I'll give a call tomorrow. Thanks, gentlemen. Quote
