chrisk Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 Some time ago, there was a thread about landing on a beach. It sounds like fun, but as this video shows, taking off from a beach can be a challenge. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/australiaandthepacific/newzealand/10563862/Plane-crashes-twice-on-New-Zealand-beach.html 1 Quote
aviatoreb Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I hadn't noticed the spelling - I thought I was going to read about a Bonanza crash. But wow - poor guy - two crashes in the same airplane in the same day. I hope he took the bus home instead of trying a third time. Quote
Marauder Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I hadn't noticed the spelling - I thought I was going to read about a Bonanza crash. LOL! Me too... Sent from my overpriced iPad using Tapatalk Quote
orionflt Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 You could see the surf come up and once it got to the left tire it just sucked the rest of the plane in. Quote
The-sky-captain Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 It takes all kinds of people to make the world go round.... Quote
Marauder Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 Looks like he was flying a Beachcraft... Sent from my overpriced iPad using Tapatalk Quote

wishboneash Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 Should have stayed further up on dry land, despite the bumpiness, better than getting one wheel into the water. Quote
Htwjr Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 He should have used more right rudder to offset the slope as well as the p torque. Bummer Quote
RocketAviator Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 NO No no you guys..... it was because he was using an AOA and did not use flaps on take off and failed to put his gear up and ___________________ oh you fill in the blank... Just could not help myself as this seemed to be the only safe place to pounce on a fellow pilot that not a Mooniac! Heck I would still like to land and take off from a beach sometime... (only I will be in someone elses plane, thats for sure...) Fly safe, Quote
Carl S Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 I hadn't noticed the spelling - I thought I was going to read about a Bonanza crash. But wow - poor guy - two crashes in the same airplane in the same day. I hope he took the bus home instead of trying a third time. Looks like he may have cracked or bent his spar. My guess is that it is going to be trucked out - which is something I would have considered in the first place. Quote
BigTex Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 He should have used more right rudder to offset the slope as well as the p torque. Bummer Does the Rotax in that plane have any noticeable p-factor? Never flew one... Just wondering? Quote
moodychief Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 Must have been running rich of peak and flooded the engine!!! Quote
Jeff_S Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 Don't you think they would have noticed that the swells were coming in right in their take-off path? I mean, how lame can you get? I suspect that with such incontrovertible video evidence, if that happened in the US that pilot certificate would be revoked in a heartbeat. I wonder if the New Zealand authority has similar zeal. jetdriven Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 Must have been running rich of peak and flooded the engine!!! Oh it's definately flooded now ! Quote
rbridges Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 Should have stayed further up on dry land, despite the bumpiness, better than getting one wheel into the water. I think he knows that now. Quote
