Trim Wheel Binding

Trim wheel takes inordinate force to turn. I cleaned & lubed the gears & removed the tail swivel nuts torque with no change in level of friction.  Any suggestions?

Did you clean the entire jack screw by removing the old grease before re-greasing? How about the mechanism in the cockpit? Did you do anything with it?

Check the worm gear mechanism just below the trim wheel, there is a C clip on the forward side that can release and allow the gears to misalign. Ultimately the gear can disengage completely had it happen to me twice, after the second time I pulled it all apart cleaned lube and replaced the C clip.

In my case it was the bearing just aft of the battery in the tail. It is also right below the electric trim motor. A shot of tri flow fixed it.

On ours, we have the old STC for the "aero electric" trim. The motor itself holds up the trim wheel and makes it difficult to turn by hand. I removed the motor to check it out and the wheel spun just fine. It could be normal if you have the electric trim...

I Might rebuild the jack screw next time I have an issue.

The problem is the universal joints on the worm shaft are binding , they are accessible from the bottom by removing the service belly panels rear of the trim wheel , you don't have to replace them , just soak them real well with penetrant until they free up , it is the two closest to the trim wheel with the biggest angle......
