ghovey Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 I have an Ovation 2GX with the 310 hp STC and 3 blade prop. I have 1250 hours and 7 years on this prop assembly. The engine (1500 hrs) is currently having all 6 cylinders overhauled (1st cylinder replacement). Two questions: 1) is there any reason I should have the prop governor overhauled now 2) any idea of how much it should cost? Thanks.
carqwik Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 My prop governor was OH'd at 900 hours due an increasing inability to hold a constant RPM. Cost was about $900 (as I recall) done at Warner Propeller in Tucson. It was supposed to take a week to do but only one guy there does them so with his vacation/whatever, it took about three weeks. This is on a Lycoming 540....apparently there was some SB on the governor that addressed the problems I experienced... You'd have to talk to other maintenance gurus to determine whether or not to address an overhaul. On my plane, it only took about ten minutes to take it off.
