Does anybody have any thoughts on asl camguard? I decided to purchase and give it a try for a few oil changes after reading about it in one of MOA's old magazines and a few other places online. It seems to get good reviews overall. Safe flying in the new year!

Thanks Jim,

But that still really doesn't clear up what the lab tests were that "showed pretty clearly that using CamGuard was the most effective way to minimize corrosion."

Did they just take some steel, but a little oil here and a little oil with camguard there and see the results after so many days?

Just happened to read this article yesterday.  The test was done by taking steel plates, dipping them in the test oils for 10 minutes, allowing them to drip dry, then hanging outdoors for 14 days.  The metal was periodically sprayed with a 20 percent saline solution. Also, for a simulated crankcase test, they used a sealed plastic container with a liter of 1 percent solution of sulphuric acid above which the steel plates were suspended. The container was alternately heated to about 90 degrees and cooled to simulate diurnal conditions.

After the 14 days, each plate was evaluted based on what percentage of the surface was rusted.  The best without additive was Exxon Elite (61% coverage).  Phillips X/C with CamGuard was 12% covered with rust.  Only thing better was Phillips Type M, which came in at 8%.

Ordered a couple of cases of Phillips X/C and some CamGuard last night.
