kmyfm20s Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 My JPI unit has the spark plug gasket probe. I changed my spark plugs from massives to fine wires and used all new gaskets as recommended except for the gasket probe. I am curious if there is anything special to do with the probe gasket? I also would like to know how should fine wire plugs be cleaned? I have read that the blasters are not good for thefine wire plugs. Quote
larryb Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 This reply doesn't exactly answer your question, but there is an alternative to that spark plug gasket probe. When I had my JPI installed, the shop recommended using the smaller gasket probe designed for the Tanis cylinder head heaters. This probe fits under the factory cht probe. With this you get two benefits. First, the temp reads the same as the other probes. And second, no worry about damage or issues when changing spark plugs. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/chtTanisProbe1.php Larry Quote
DonMuncy Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 There are cheaper probes available than Spruce's. If you are interested, PM me and I will try to look up the source. Quote
jetdriven Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 its a 3/8 type K thermocouple. I got a pair for 20$. pick the few particles of lead out every 50 hours with a dental pick or a piece of .032 safety wire. They dont fill up like the massives do. Quote
mikesalman Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 We just found all 4 of my spark plug probes damaged at annual. I ordered 4 of those from Sarasota Avionics for $111.00 each JPI wanted $120 a piece. Quote
