  1. Delaware is not cold! Was -20C all day here. As I am typing this... it is -26C check the METAR It will drop below -30C in the next few hours. Yves
  2. Congrats Erik. Did you find this easier or harder than the IFR rating? Yves
  3. Thanks Hector for the info. I used Homestead because of my planned Keys flight and everglades treck. I will go to Tamiami next time for sure. I am still interested to find out how well received was Andrew at MIA. Yves
  4. Nice video Andrew. I was around there earlier in the week (but did not dare to land in MIA... went to Homestead instead) and have a few questions: Which FBO did you use? How long was your stay at the airport? Were they friendly with small airplanes? How much did they charge you? How much was the fuel? Foreflight says $8.90 a gallon! Regards, Yves
  5. Piloto, sorry to tell you this but Sumo wrestlers are Japanese. There are no more Sumo wrestlers in China than there are in USA. Yves
  6. I got my IFR rating 3 years ago and only really started to use it a year ago (after my airplane got upgraded to fly IFR legally in Canada) .. so I consider myself "green" and have personal minimums that relate to my lack of experience. The few recent times I was IFR in bumpy conditions, I was really happy to have the wing leveler operative. This decreased the workload quite a bit and allowed me to concentrate on the navigation part and keep the shiny side up. Yves
  7. Open the image and you will see how I did it a year ago. The highest I needed to go was 10000 if I recall right. Yves
  8. Weather changed slightly (went closer to my personal minimums) so was able to depart IFR the next day. Legs info here: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/CFQKM Yves
  9. We returned yesterday from our trip to sunny Florida. Boy oh boy am I glad I had under my belt my Current IFR rating. Check the different legs over here: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/CFQKM I did one of my lifetime dream flight which was to overfly the Florida Keys from Homestead to Key West and come back. We used the occasion to spend time at South Beach and visit the aligators in the everglades (even tasted a bit of it). For this year, the winning best FBO palm goes to AirGate in New Smyrna Beach. The worse was in Homestead, Jet Center Here are some pictures. Yves
  10. We are now in KEVB (New Smyrna Beach), grounded due to low IFR. I guess we'll enjoy the area until it changes. Yves
  11. I have landed in Homestead (X51) today. Plan to hang at south beach part of tomorrow. If weather cooperates, we'll overfly the keys on Monday. Yves
  12. Preparing my short Florida trip. If all goes to plan, will take off tomorrow early. Can't wait to get some nice weather (heat) and beach time. Yves
  13. Paul, what is the AFMS? Yves
  14. Merry Christmas José and Carmen. I am planning to be in Florida by the end of the week. Might do a stop at F.L. if you are around and wish to have visitors. If you see a fast small airplane with call sign C-GOER at your airport, this guy is a good friend who flies from the same base as me, his name is André. I just got off the chat with him... he landed at KFXE just before dark tonight. It is a Questair Venture. Regards, Yves
  15. Have been to Cuba about a dozen times for vacation, always with the airlines. I did start to make plans to fly there with the Mooney eventually... hop to Bahamas and then Cuba. But if things normalize between them and USA it will be much easier from the Keys. Would be fun to have a group (like the Caravan) fly there. Yves
  16. More detail Mike? Yves
  17. I am planning to be in Miami too but a few days later... flying from eastern Canada with my M20C. Plan is to spend a day or two in Miami and then head towards the keys for a day or two and then return. Yves
  18. I do not recall reading about a similar rule on specific airports in Canada but when I asked my instructor about it he said as soon as you are below 0 C you should calculate and apply the correction. This sounds safe to me. Yves
  19. I am having trouble lowering the gear from the left seat due to my winter coat sleeve linen getting stuck in the bracket sometimes. A bit like when as a kid your pants would get stuck in the bicycle chain. I guess I should put a clamp similar to the one used for bicycles on top of this. I am dreaming of living in Arizona still! Yves
  20. This type of system would help when landing on icy runways... so we are talking about Northern climates. The issue with Northern climates is that it is COLD. was -15 C here this morning and we are not winter yet. I flew my Mooney at -30 C once... Whatever you do with this, make sure it is tested down that cold (and possibly even colder for some other Mooney friends who fly further north than I do). Yves
  21. Ned, did you find it locally? Yves
  22. Any reports on engine oil prices? I am thinking of flying across the border at the end of the month... being a happy member of the CB club, I will avoid buying oil here which is absolutely a rip-off. Might have room to bring back a case... Yves
  23. Philip, you were born the same day as one of my daughters. Here is her picture. Yves
  24. If I cross the border southbound soon I will definitely stop there. Have not flown much recently: family matters we had to deal with... Yves
