  1. That's perfectly reasonable for higher than average speeds. I was talking about drivers braking any time they see a curve even on freeways :-)
  2. You can tell the bad drivers by when and how they brake (and many of them drive fast German cars). The pet peeve is braking for no reason when approaching a curve even at benign speeds. Then there are the ones who signal lane changes and those who don't. And those who expect freeway traffic to slow down to their merging speed than the other way around. The list is endless. . I drive in the slowest lane when I am driving the EV, otherwise with my MINI it depends on who I am passing and how fast I am going.
  3. Here's mine... I managed to squeeze it in moving the AP selector. Not attractive, but it works. I like the JPI900 horizontal.
  4. Oh no! It's about 1.6 oz per quart if I recall correctly.
  5. Aggie EE grad (1990). Currently plane is with Don who is doing the annual. I hope to pick it up end of next week and fly it back home.
  6. Adams Rib Pit BBQ, Longview. Most places are apparently closed on Mondays
  7. Made it to DMax's on Monday (Oct-16) and my J is in the hands of the best Mooney mechanic around! So far so good. I flew from Livermore, CA to Boulder City, NV (Sunday) for the first leg. Refueled and flew the second leg via the Grand Canyon area (south rim) and parked overnight at Santa Fe, NM. Monday morning set off for Longview and just made it in time for a BBQ lunch. Drove to DFW in the afternoon and was back in the SF Bay area by midnight on Monday. Return trip possibly end of next week. Pics in order - Santa Fe, eastern Grand Canyon, Grand Canyon airport, western part of Grand Canyon, McKinney airport.
  8. They had cars, but wouldn't budge from the $100 or so extra charge for a one-way rental. I told them I would do another rental on the return from DFW to GGG and was there to pick up/drop off an aircraft at East Texas Regional. Also with the AVIS rental I just have to get to the other side of the field to pick up the car.
  9. I am about a month away from taking my plane to Don.. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
  10. I was able to get a one-way rental car with AVIS from KGGG to KDFW for about $50 $80 with a corporate discount. The Enterprise at Kilgore refused to accommodate me.
  11. Thanks for all the replies, the CB option is to get a one-way rental car. Since my son will be going with me the car is a better deal.
  12. I'll be taking my J to Don on Oct 16th from California. Any ride options to get back to Dallas on 16th evening? Thanks in advance.
  13. Found a few here https://electricbikereview.com/category/folding/
  14. This one was tragic http://www.pprune.org/pacific-general-aviation-questions/483560-vh-ppa-mooney-m20r-fatal-crash-ferry-flight.html
  15. We might just have to do a fly-in to KCMA when you get it ! Miss my frequent flights there after I switched companies.
  16. That could explain my lower TAS... I have Slicks with 20 deg on the A3B6. It would be nice to be able to go to the 25 deg timing.
  17. I would check the fuel tanks for leaks, fill it up and check next day for smells inside cockpit and external leaks. Check for corrosion at the usual places and borescope the engine. You should get some early indications of its status. Then go from there. If these major items are covered, your financial risk may be low assuming you get a good price. Good luck!
  18. I like the engine monitor where you put it. My second radio is the KX155. It's a good set up.
  19. I have vacuum speedbrakes too. I could get rid of the standby vacuum. In my situation, the only big benefit would be the A/P upgrade and an integrated glass panel. I have GDL-88 ADS-B out and an EDM-900 which are excellent.
  20. Looking for the same info. It would allow me to move to "glass" using the GTN650 as the position source along with a possibly more capable AP than the Century IIB.
  21. Next time! I wanted to do some driving in the pretty country in that area. Thanks.
  22. Thanks for posting all this info, Paul. A real treasure trove of useful information!
  23. I just returned from a trip to Banff. I can answer questions from a US perspective since they are quite fresh on my mind. I flew into Cranbrook, BC (CYXC) from Lewiston, ID. I called Canpass on the ground after landing at Cranbrook and it was all handled on the phone. Very straightforward. Nobody met me, perhaps because of the holidays. I rented a car at Cranbrook and drove to Banff, Jasper going through Fernie, Sparwood towards Calgary (22). Stayed a night at Kananaskis (campsites were mostly full) and tourists everywhere. Then west to Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise (very crowded) and then on to Jasper (went up to the Columbia Icefields as FBCK mentioned). Athabasca glacier is an easy trek off the highway. Much less crowded in Jasper NP but very few places to stay in that area. Returned via the other side through Radium Hot Springs and other small towns on 93. Camped a couple of days and stayed in hotels for a couple of days. Nice trip, weather was hot, but the scenery and the overall beauty of the region made up for it. The return to the US was a pain and stressful, partly my fault, but also very poor information/documentation and not streamlined at all in my experience. They are neither friendly nor helpful.
