  1. I am guessing if you enter a VFR flight plan and then cancel it or not even activate it, you will be on Flightaware.
  2. Nice looking plane. Should have put a 1080P display in it :-)
  3. Even better if it was during the Oshkosh fly in time. There would be a lot of flying then.
  4. Now if only I could get the 165kt TAS one reads about! The engine is doing its job, but the airframe is probably dirty :-)
  5. In my J, EGT is abotut 1250 at sea level, WOT, 2700 rpm, 19gph FF.
  6. Actually KSQL is butting right up to KSFO and one tends to get specific instructions for VFR flight. KPAO isn't too bad. The problem with KPAO is that it is a zoo with a single runway and a crowded ramp. Interestingly with all the congestion in this area, one can actually do the "Bay tour" without talking to a single controller if you study the charts carefully. Not that it is a wise decision :-)
  7. The M10 might be around this Fri & Sat (May 13/14) at KPAO (Palo Alto) in addition to other new planes. See caaircraftexpo.com Anyone going?
  8. Meaning to try out this app on my Android phone ... (called Aircraft cockpit and costs $5). The free version runs for 5 minutes. It uses barometric, GPS and gyro inputs to run the display. Seems to work fine on the ground. The only real input missing is airspeed, but ground speed should suffice if you know your power settings for different regimes of flight. The good thing is if my phone is charged, I don't have to worry about any electrical issues on the plane either. And yes, I can change the scale on the speed indicator (240knots max)
  9. Corrected that for you ... E FP TOZ LPED PECFD
  10. It turned out I had a small air leak in my intake manifold that would keep idle high. This resulted in long landing runs and unnecessary need for braking. Fixed that, everything good again and my brakes are happy.
  11. Chris, on my Android phone I use - Skew-t, Aviation Weather and Raindar. I like your iOS versions and may put some of your recommendations on my iPad Mini and use the tethering feature to download data when I don't have wifi.
  12. It has happened. It was a matter of when. http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/apr/17/drone-plane-heathrow-airport-british-airways
  13. Sorry to hear that. LVK is a good training airport. Things have gone crazy in the Bay area in the last 5 years or so with all the money. Good luck!
  14. Seems like you are in touch with Flying Particles at LVK. They have a lot of good instructors but I have heard that their instructors are also quite busy with one of the flying schools at LVK going out of business a few years ago. A lot of student activity these days. I am based out of LVK, used to be an active member of the club until I got my J. The owner of that Mooney at Flying Particles is part of this group. Let me know if you need more info.
  15. Having the widget for the METAR and winds aloft (Garmin Pilot) is quite helpful. I keep track of the surface winds as the plane flies along. I probably wouldn't have time to do this on an engine out, unless I have a lot of time.
  16. Even worse, some who shuffle them.
  17. I think the EGT would be out of whack with a sticky valve. CHTs are much slower to respond at start up. What I had noticed was during start up with morning sickness, one cylinder would come up with a very low EGT for 30sec or so.
  18. Fly it backwards (Ferris Bueller's day off)!
  19. 1-NO, 2-YES, 3-Maybe, 4-NO, 5-NO 1 - winds are terrible. 3 - not sure if a VOR approach will get me under the ceiling (if there is an LPV approach, maybe). 4 seems risky to me, conditions could be worse than predicted and don't want to get into something me/my plane can handle. Seems like for 5, it is the best airport/runways/equipment in that area given the conditions. What makes one think other airports nearby are likely to be any better or easier to land at? If there is more than a 50% chance I can't make it and would have to divert, I won't go.
  20. Sorry to hear about the owl. Hope the dog makes it in its new digs.
  21. 1.2 or 0.2? 1.2 is not particularly well balanced.
  22. There are some car drivers who I feel uncomfortable sitting in the right seat with! Bad communication on the radio is the first sign.
  23. I just did my first run yesterday from Sacramento to Bakersfield. Another pilot took the dog from there to Van Nuys. All in all a nice mission since the dog was to be euthanized if no one him took from the shelter in Sacramento. The dog was blind (a mini poodle) and I am glad it will get to live its life out in peace. Struggled with the medium sized crate to get it into my J. Had to take the top off and re-assemble in the back seat. The C172 which took the dog from Bakersfield had no problem getting the crate through its comparatively huge door. Have to think about getting a soft sided carrier. Info below on the "compassion" call sign. I didn't know about it until I read it here.. http://www.pilotsnpaws.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=23232
