  1. This is really screwed up. None of the "C" models came with fixed cowl flaps.
  2. I don't know why Mooney ever went to the hydraulic flaps. The mechanical flaps always worked and was a much simpler design.
  3. There is no pump or diaphragm with the manual flaps. Its all mechanical linkage. Manual flaps have a lever that you raise up and down. If the flaps are coming up to fast, move the lever slower.
  4. I think you run out of room before you exceed the weight limit. I think trying to fit someone that was more than 350 lbs in a mooney would be tough. Someone that big would not fit in the front seat next to me because the person would be too wide and would be in the way of raising and lowering the gear with the johnson bar. I guess someone that big could fit in the back and take up both seats.
  5. I heard the same thing. I sure hope they don't let the crew responsible for this to continue to fly.
  6. It will be interesting to find out how a flight crew with over 20,000 combined hours, and flown into hundreds of airports all over the world allowed themselves to let airspeed and altitude fall way below minimums on this approach to landing.
  7. Mixture rich, no carb heat
  8. I change my oil every 25 hours. Which is about every 3 or 4 months.
  9. I installed the Plane Power Gen to alt conversion two years ago and am happy with it. No problems so far.
  10. I think the flush mount looks better.
  11. Try Monarch Sky in Henderson NV
  12. They do make tubeless tires for airplanes!
  13. I would keep the KT-76A for now, but do the rest.
  14. What planes are faster and cheaper?
  15. Thats another reason I change my oil every 25 hours. I check everything out at that time. Tighten all hoses and clamps and check/fix leaks. Between oil changes I will sometimes shine a flashlight up into the cowl flaps and into the door where you check the oil just to check everything out. Unless I have a problem or see something unusual I don't bother pulling the cowling off untill the next oil change. So far this has worked for me.
  16. I picked the Mooney because it was the fastest plane for the money.
  17. Cute! Great video!
  18. The 310 started losing power on take off. Not enough runway left to stop so I pulled up into ground effect, feathered prop, raised gear, accelerated to best single engine climb speed and would pull up to gain altitude untill speed started to slow, then level off, accelerate, climb, and kept doing that until I gained enough altitude to circle around and land. Found out I had sucked a plastic bag into the air cleaner which was keeping the engine from developing full power. In the 421, just after take off when I reached over to raise the gear I saw black smoke pouring out of the right engine. I immediately turned the fuel selector to the right engine off. Feathered engine, circled around and after landing discovered the air-oil separator line had come loose and was spraying oil on the exhaust. Defiantly keeps a person from becoming complacent about flying when you experience an engine failure.
  19. I had a complete engine failure in a Cessna 182 at night at 7,000ft over the Cajon Pass in Southern California. Landed at Brackett airport in Pamona 15 miles away. Was 50hrs over TBO. Conecting rod came apart which caused the #5 cylinder to depart the engine. The 182 was used for banner towing. Lost power in an engine on take of in a Cessna 310, and had to shut down an engine on take off in a Cessna 421. After the engine failure in the 182 I think twice about making cross country flights in single engine airplanes over the desert at night.
  20. Cool!!!
  21. I have a "B" model with all the speed mods except one piece belly. I have 3 blade prop and I do 150+kts at 6000 to 8000. I average 10gph for the entire flight including startup, taxie, runup and flight. Most of the time I run FT and 2400 to 2500 leaned till rough then rich till it smooths out. Check flight aware for my speed and alt.
  22. Sometimes my egt temps run hot like that.
  23. I had the same problem. The straight stem broke when trying to fill with air. I replaced my tires and tubes and bought the 90 degree stems. Don't have to bend the stems to put air in or check pressure any more.
