  1. Mine is the same way. Looks like this is normal.
  2. If the clock from a 1961 "B" model is the same. I have one that I would sell.
  3. I haven't tried these. But I have tried a number of ANR headsets, and found the cheaper headsets are not as comfortable and the sound quallity is not as good as the more expensive ones. These look similar to my Softcoms. To heavy for long cross country trips or flights longer than two hours. I think if it were me and did not want to spend a lot of money I would go with the David Clarks.
  4. Great Story!
  5. I don't understand how heavier gauge aluminum would make a plane have a lower gross weight. If the B and C model were the same gross weight, I could see the B model having a lower useful load because of the heavier airframe. But still don't understand why an airplane with thiner gauge aluminum skin would would be certified with a higher gross weight. I would think the thicker aluminum would make it stronger and be able to carry more weight. I mean if you build two identical airplanes and use the same engine with the same horse power, I would think the one built with heavier gauge aluminum would be stronger and have a higher gross weight.
  6. Why is the gross weight of a 1961 "B" 2450 and a 1962 and later "C" 2575 ? They both have the same airframe and same engine.
  7. I think I would buy a Cessna P210 for that kind of flying.
  8. Wow! I hate it when that happens!
  9. Sounds interesting.
  10. I don't think TFR's are a good idea. I mean, telling everyone in the world when and where the president is traveling can't be good. I think it would be a lot more secure if no one new when and where the president was going to show up someplace. Just like when President Bush showed up to visit the troops that one Thanksgiving.
  11. That"s a good thing to know if I ever have that problem.
  12. I didn't notice much difference in cruise speed going from a 2 blade to a 3 blade. I did notice a 150 to 200fpm climb increase over the 2 blade. My 3 blade Hartzell prop conversion was only 14lbs heaver than the 2 blade. I installed a lightweight starter and PlanePower generator to alternator conversion and lost 20lbs. So, now I'm 6lbs lighter than before. Most people report a loss of about 3mph in speed going from a 2 blade to a 3 blade. If anyone has taken off from Big Bear (L35) in the summer in a normally aspirated Mooney, you might be more willing to sacrifice the 3mph in cruise speed for the increase in climb perforance. A person could always install a powerflow exhaust system and/or any number of speed mods to try and make up any loss in speed from the prop conversion.
  13. How did this go from 2 Blade Prop Quicker to bladders v/s reseal?
  14. How much faster is the 2 blade over the 3 blade? My new engine and new 3 blade prop are about the same cruise speed as the old engine and old 2 blade. I get about 150 fpm better climb rate with the 3 blade prop.
  15. I change my oil every 4 to 6 months, which works out to be about every 25 hours. If I'm making long cross country trips (NY to CA) I will extend the oil changes to 50 hours. If it starts looking dirty and I have more than 25 hours, I change it.
  16. The information on flying over the Niagara Falls area is on the Detroit sectional. I normally aproach Niagara Falls from the east and contact Buffalo aproach for class "C" transit. When I have the falls is site, they will tell me to change to 122.05 before entering the pattern. When I'm done flying around the falls I contact Buffalo aproach for the return. You don't need to file a flight plan when flying in the pattern around Niagara Falls even though the pattern takes you in and out of Canadian airspace. The only time you would have to file, is if you aproched the Falls from the west thru Canada.
  17. They already is a turbine Mooney. It's called a TBM850.
  18. Flight over Niagara Falls 4-13-2012
  19. Niagara Falls has Special Air-Traffic Rules. No flight is authorized below 3500 feet MSL. There is a clockwise pattern over the falls, and you have to broadcast your intentions and monitor on 122.05. Do not exceed 130kts. I'm not very far from the falls and have flown their many times.
  20. Count me in. I'm planning on attending.
  21. My first flight in my Mooney was a solo cross country flight from Tulsa Oklahoma to Rochester NY. One fuel stop, 6.5 hrs flight time, 1300 miles.
