  1. I'd love to, thanks. Again a reasonable person knows not to make a complete fool out of himself by making dogmatic statements about a product he has never used, especially when it is about something that all will get sorted out. I'm an optimistic person and I'm confident that Garmin is working just as hard as Avidyne to resolve this since the Red X's that are on their G500's are what is grounding his airplane. Garmin advertises that the G500 "interfaces with popular avionics". "G500 is an affordable, dual-screen electronic flight display that works with your avionics stack to provide a fully certified “glass cockpit” retrofit option." https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/63598 The Avidyne IFD540 with the previous software worked great with the previous Garmin 500 software. Both companies continually make updates to their software. The dealer should have confirmed with both companies what software versions were compatible with each other before doing any updates to his customer's airplane. That's why they charge $100 an hour for their services to get it right. As we continue to keep moving forward toward software based solutions in our panels it will take more diligence on the part of all manufacturers and installers to work together and get it right for the customer and not point at each other. By the way, Red X's on Garmin 500/600/900/1000 products are not uncommon and none of the examples below are Avidyne related. But Garmin is a good company and they keep working through the issues and it all gets sorted out. No reasonable person is suggesting that a customer tear out the product and start over with something else. http://garmin.blogs.com/aviationalerts/2013/12/service-advisory-1361-rev-a-possible-temporary-loss-of-headingattitude-information-in-garmin-g500-an.html http://garmin.blogs.com/aviationalerts/2013/11/service-advisory-1118-rev-a-momentary-failure-indications-red-x-can-occur-when-sorting-stored-flight.html http://garmin.blogs.com/aviationalerts/2013/11/service-advisory-0929-rev-a-momentary-failure-indications-red-x-can-occur-when-deleting-stored-data.html https://www.flyhpa.com/2011/08/dealing-with-ahrsadc-failures/ https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=109490 https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=115734 https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=109342 https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=63381
  2. If that's the case then Garmin should stop making transponders. https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=139436 But a reasonable person knows they will get it all sorted out.
  3. In automotive applications I really like these. Once you heat the connection with a heat gun or lighter it melts the solder and shrinks the tubing and makes a great connection. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XD1F5ZG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  4. I didn't look at the dot on Pakistan close enough. I corrected it to say that he's been in 11 of the time zones so far.
  5. Again not that the world will stop spinning either way, but if he's in Pakistan it's fair to say that Brian Lloyd had been in eleven time zones so far.
  6. As much testing as a company can do, early adopters always find the bugs in real life use. Early adopters of the G600 and G500 found bugs that Garmin hadn't found, as did Aspen early adopters. The Garmin 796 is still the best stand alone portable, but ones who bought them first had heat and other issues. In the past three years they have added some great features and it was all worth it. Sorry you're experiencing a few teething pains with the Avidynes, but it's not fleet wide, just getting Avidyne's new software and Garmin's new software to mesh. All in all they have some great features and tremendous potential for more with their architecture. It's great that they are working with you on your shop's diagnostic time.
  7. Not that it really matters, but Greenwich Mean Time (UTC) is its own time zone. 5 time zones before Greenwich Mean Time, plus Greenwich Mean Time Zone plus 5 time zones after Greenwich Mean Time = 11 time zones. https://www.timeanddate.com/time/map/ But really Paul was correct to begin with because Texas is minus 6, so that means 12 total time zones so far, and that's half way around the world.
  8. Replacing the cam gear should actually add more value than just the cost of replacement compared to all others out there, since it would be turnkey for the buyer. Otherwise if it's not done the buyer is thinking about having their "new" airplane down for maintenance right after purchase. Knowns are a good thing. Plus if there have been 5 camshaft failures there's the peace of mind in knowing it's done.
  9. Which is the main reason I haven't pulled my yokes off to have them covered in leather or powder coated - I don't want the connections that now work perfectly desoldered or spliced. Someday I'll either get up the courage to try to cover them in place or take it to someone I trust to pull the yokes.
  10. There are two links to Ebay ads - there are two bladders for sale
  11. Throw the K in with the mid bodies as well.
  12. None of the three options include an exhaust kit. However all three options include new or rebuilt accessories (mags, ignition harness, starter, alternators, fuel servo, turbo/wastegate). Overhaul is the time to send off the exhaust system for a rebuild. All new hoses for this engine are over $3000. http://www.airpowerinc.com/productcart/pc/TLEngineDetail.asp?catID=33&prodID=10267
  13. There are used bladders in good shape on Ebay that might get this airplane back in the air. http://www.ebay.com/itm/O-N-STC-Aero-Tech-Services-Mooney-Fuel-Cell-Bladder-P-N-B-501-BR-0417-151-/142412990172?hash=item212879c6dc:g:RW0AAOSwT5xZOqR3&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/O-N-STC-Aero-Tech-Services-Mooney-Fuel-Cell-Bladder-P-N-B-501-AR-0417-150-/132224919579?hash=item1ec938281b:g:DHYAAOSwFqNZOqW3&vxp=mtr
  14. You might list the model number of the part of the Mooney that it fits.
  15. I agree completely on the switch to Concorde. I stopped counting the number of Gill batteries that I bought. Batteryminders help and of course flying a lot helps and moderate climate helps, but I'm not sure I ever got more than 2.5 years out of a Gill battery.
  16. There shouldn't be W & B change. Your '89 J Model is 28 volts. The Gill 243 weighs 28.8 pounds. the Concorde 24-15M weighs 29.5 pounds. If the weight and balance difference is less than a pound you don't need an A & P signoff, just a logbook entry with your signature.
  17. The G1000 and G500 panels are vastly different. The G1000 is part of the Type Certificate. If later on you decide to put something else in the panel, you can't. The G500 is an aftermarket glass panel replacement of the analog gauges. Later if something else comes along that you like better you can change it over.
  18. The Concorde is just as easy for you to replace as the Gill.
  19. The -15M is called for in the Parts book for an M20R (or a Gill G243). They are interchangeable in size and weight, but definitely not quality and longevity.
  20. On a Cessna 182 a very hard landing will put a serious dent in the firewall, but not sure if they do the same thing to the firewall on a Mooney.
  21. The weights are the same. The old gills showed weight without the acid of around 27 pounds if I remember correctly. Then you add the acid and you're up to 29 pounds. The Concorde is sealed and it's 29 pounds.
  22. Go with the -15. The price difference isn't much and you get more capacity
