For Sale: KLN94 Database Updates $50
LANCECASPER replied to LANCECASPER's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
Two databases have been e-mailed out with success. I still have a few more available. Lance -
To follow up, I got the airplane back from Dugosh today. It took 4.5 hours of labor and some miscellaneous hardware, including an uplimit switch (actuator), new roll pins, etc. to get it all put back together, but it is working very well now. Dugosh did a great job on it! David, the mechanic that worked on it, has been there 32 years working on Mooneys. He even researched the lever that links to the cowl flap indicator and found out that there had been an updated improved part from the factory. They were fair on their pricing and good on communication. I know where I'll be going for service.

Mooney used Ultraleather on the panels in my '97 Encore. Obviously it met the burn test requirement. AeroComfort in San Antonio uses ultraleather when they cover Royalite panels.(see attached pricelist from them) Aero Comfort PriceList (1-2-14).pdf

Instead of fabric covering on the Royalite panels I would go with the Ultraleather. Having had both, the Ultraleather adheres much better with the adhesive they use and when it gets soiled cleans up much easier.

Mooney International Press Conference at Sun N Fun
LANCECASPER posted a topic in General Mooney Talk
At 5:30 p.m. today, Friday April 4, 2014, Mooney held a Press Conference in a Special Events Tent at Sun N Fun. Dr. Jerry Chen introduced his management team, Tom Bowen - Chief Operating Officer, Barry Hodkin - Chief Financial Officer, Dr. Neil Pfeiffer - Chief Technical Officer, and Chad Nelson - Chief Manufacturing Officer. Each member of the press and anyone else that they allowed in the tent was given a Press Kit and a Commemorative Mooney Coin. Dr. Chen said that the three top priorities at Mooney were always (1) Speed, (2) Speed and (3) Speed. Now they will be (1) Safety (2) Speed and (3) Style. An Auction is planned for the first Acclaim S off of the Assembly Line, where the proceeds will go to start a Mooney Museum. In a question and answer session Dr. Chen confirmed that there is over $50 million in backing for Mooney International and that $1 million has already been invested in the factory. When asked if ever there would be a lower priced legacy model again produced - the response was that they are keeping all possibilities open. -
According to my logbooks, in 1997 Really White was TP10010 in Pratt & Lambert. This website may be helpful http://www.aerotouchups.com/ . Their paint is expensive but the codes are there for many of the colors. They also have a pdf of some color charts.

The 252 is what a lot of people consider the best combination of speed and efficiency ever to leave Kerrville. You mention that they are "mostly '86 to '89 models". The "real" 252's were only made from '86-'90, with only 10 being made in 1990. Other years that you see ('79-'85) are 231's that are being advertised as 252's. Some have had some modifications but they shouldn't be compared in price to a 252. Any modified 231 won't have the updated 28 volt electrical system. Most won't have been updated to the -MB engine or dual alternators. Also watch out for a few "stripped" 252's that were built with only one alternator and hardly any options. The Encore was made in 1997-98 - this was an updated 252 with higher gross weight, -SB 220hp engine, vastly improved interior (no royalite plastic on the sides or headliner, better materials all around, insulation, firewall insulation, etc), stronger landing gear, etc, etc. Since there were only 35 Encores made they are hard to find. I owned a 231 and I own an Encore now - lightyears of difference in the two airplanes. The 231 was a great airplane, but the 252 was a big improvement and the Encore was a nice improvement over the 252. (Over the years I owned two different Bravos and prefer the Encore to the Bravo in many ways.) Don't get fooled into buying what seems like a cheap 252, only to find out that deferred maintenance brings the price much higher than a real nice, well maintained example would have been. The tuition you pay for that education is pretty expensive. Still the best deal is one that has been maintained by the book and flown regularly. Another reason that the 252's seem cheap now is that, due to age, in many of the fleet, the interiors, paint, panels, engine are in need of attention. Try to find one that has the four (interior, paint, panel, engine) you are looking for, or at least three out of the four. In any event, if you find a good one and you plan on taking advantage of higher altitudes, you'll see a nice upgrade in performance over your 201. ENCORE PRE-BUY.pdf

With information from Kortopates I was able to get Globe Motors to rebuild my cowl flap motor. I called Bobbie Eldridge at Globe Motors at the Alabama facility. She couldn't have been any nicer or more helpful. The airplane is at Dugosh having it installed as we speak.

WANT TO BUY: Data Loader Cable for King KLN 89B
LANCECASPER replied to LANCECASPER's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
Ah, I appreciate it - someone already Private Messaged me with one. Thanks! List it on here someone will buy it -
Not sure where you'e located, but with cooler weather in most parts of the country this winter, I'm surprised you got any crank after 2-1/2 months. Especially if the last landing may have been made at night, taxiing in at low RPM with taxi and landing lights on could have left you a little low to begin with. The Batterminder is well worth it. 20 years ago I used a 12 V Battery Tender from a motorcycle on my 231. Later on I used a Battery Minder to charge both batteries at the same time in the Bravo I had and now I use a 24041-AA-S5 Battery Minder in my Encore. I run the connector into the APU plug door so it's easy to access. And yes I'll take 5 minutes and pull of the wiring before my next annual. : ) Just make sure you get the correct one for your battery (My Concorde battery uses a special one that has an S5 suffix - works awesome though). In addition to that once it brings it up to charge it will run through a desulfate mode also to extend the life of your battery. It pays for itself and it's nice to know that you're going to start off with plenty of cranking power. Nothing worse than pushing out of the hangar, loading up everything, pre-flighting and then no cranking amps. The best price I found on the one I needed with shipping (no tax) was at Batteryplex.com

Just sent you a PM -
Looking for an inexpensive upgrade from my KLN-89b. If anyone has a KLN94 for sale let me know. Thanks!

I ordered a baffle set for my '97 M20K Encore and even though the 252 set was close it took a little improvising. I'm sure the next set for an Encore will be perfect. It is the best baffle material out there. You will definitely see a decrease in temps with good baffling like this. Looks great too! Thanks Guy Lance

I was used to a King KFC200 in my 231 and then a KFC150 in a couple of Bravos. I liked the 200 the best of those two, although pre-select on both Bravos was convenient. Pre-select can be added to a KFC 200 I believe. I flew with a friend once who had the KFC225 and that was the best yet. I had an STEC 55 with preselect in a Malibu Mirage and there was no comparison - all of the Kings were much better. Piper and Mooney went to the STec around 1999-2000 for awhile based on price and tried to sell it as a safety advantage, since it was not attitude based, but off of the turn coordinator - rate based. But I knew someone at the factory back then and he said the cost was half as much as the King, so that was what made the decision. I called it the STurn instead of the STec for it's tracking ability on the ILS. After Cutter Aviation looked at it, it was worse, so I made a trip up to Mineral Wells and the factory spent a day with it and improved it a lot, but still not to the standard of the King. I will say that the company was very responsive, so that left a more favorable impression.
