  1. Thanks!!
  2. Jose, Do you put the weatherstrip on top of the rubber door seal that's already there? Also, do you use this on the baggage door also? Thanks, Lance
  3. might be able to get a cheap new one if no one else bids http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aero-Trim-Aileron-Rudder-Trim-Control-MSRP-899-FAA-PMA-Cessna-Piper-Mooney-/282343085377?hash=item41bcf59541:g:w3cAAOSw5cNYhSiE&vxp=mtr
  4. The long body Mooneys all have two ships batteries so with electric primary and backup there's a lot of electricity there to get it back safely on the ground.
  5. This began around 2006.
  6. The two blade is better for cruise, if that's what you're looking for. The 252 gave the most cruise speed for fuel burned and it used a two blade prop. Later when Mooney was doing flight testing for the Encore (updated 252) they tried many prop options and although the 3 blade looked better on the ramp, the two blade always gave them better cruise numbers by a few knots. There are trade-offs with everything, better cruise = 2 blade, better climb = 3 blade. The 3 blade scimitar top prop probably hits the best sweet spot with cruise and climb speeds, but it's expensive.
  7. At the MAPA opening discussion with Tom Bowen (who no longer works at Mooney) the audience was blaming the FAA for no certification. He said that Mooney was way behind on getting the FAA the data that they needed for certification. So, representing Mooney, he accepted the blame.
  8. NA = Normally Aspirated (Non Turbo)
  9. Since you asked . . . yes. I believe in using experts wherever possible. You end up paying them a little more for their lifetime of experience and you get a lot more as opposed to paying a little less and getting a lot less. You are buying a complex piece of equipment, get a person who knows it inside and out and get the most out of it that you can. You will never regret excellent training, you may regret later what seems like adequate training at the time.
  10. Do you mind letting us know how much they charged for the repairs?
  11. Ovation 3 with 310hp
  12. Based on things I've read here and Beechtalk I don't think the G-5 is quite there yet. There have been a few updates which have improved it. I wouldn't hesitate to replace the turn coordinator with a G-5 in a 6 pack steam gauge panel, but to have it as your only back up on a glass panel, I would be nervous. The L3 LSI-500 is much more capable.
  13. That's about the right speed for an M20R with TKS. If cruise speed is your biggest concern, look for a 2 blade prop from someone who upgraded from the Ovation 2 (2 blade prop) and went to the 310hp with the 3 blade Top Prop. You'll need a different spinner of course. http://www.ebay.com/itm/McCauley-Mooney-M20R-Ovation-Propeller-/270177720528?hash=item3ee7d8d8d0:m:mLj6GAjx4ZnrzbXI86t6SBA&vxp=mtr That 2 blade should add 6 knots in cruise to what you are getting from the original Ovation prop. Your take-off roll will be longer but if you are based at an airport with a long runway at least that's one option. http://www.pilotfriend.com/aircraft performance/Mooney/57.htm
  14. Please give us a pirep of your new Cies digital fuel senders.
  15. If David Behrens at Dugosh did the work on this Mooney over the years it has been well maintained. He is one of the best in the business. Very seldom is it advisable to go without a pre-buy but if David Behrens at Dugosh or Don Maxwell's shop or LASAR or TopGun did all of the recent annuals I'd be comfortable with it.
  16. If you watch the "Boots on the Ground" Video (history of Mooney) they talked to the two ladies that sealed the tanks for many years at Mooney. They seemed very detail oriented. The biggest part will be the prep. I'm sure to strip the old sealer is very tedious, and although it may be Airplane Science, it's not Rocket Science. There are enough threads on here that talk about the products to use and the steps to take. Find an IA that has a reasonable attitude and turn it into a project. Maybe you'll end up being the Mooney Fuel Tank specialist in the NE USA by the time you're finished.
  17. If what you have on the airplane is adhesive material you can use a heat gun and remove it. Use some poster board before you remove it to make a template. Then after you remove it use some Goo Gone to clean off the old adhesive. The KSC Regular Grip 24" product works very well. If you order 6 feet, around $30, you'll have plenty for the job. The Super Grip is too difficult to work with - ask me how I know. http://www.kofflersales.com/p/anti-slip-abrasive-tape.asp?cid=23
  18. Acpartswhse was parting out a fairly late J model so it should be a factory one piece belly

  20. I tell newbies that they won't hurt themselves if they step on the flap, but I will hurt them if they step on the flap . . seems to work : )
  21. The cleanest install on a PS Engineering Audio Panel is to have them make the harness. http://www.ps-engineering.com/docs/PMA8000B_Harn.pdf
  22. There are some people really good with paint that do an excellent re-fresh and blend in areas that are wearing thin and you don't have to go through the whole repaint process, especially since you're satisfied with your paint scheme.
  23. Shoot Hector at Aero Comfort an e-mail and ask him. aerohec01@hotmail.com
  24. Looks like it has a silver label on the back. Point your camera over there and see what it says.
  25. Looks great!
