  1. The fuel pump and mags should have a cooling tube. The large one in the picture is for the fuel pump. The pump should have a shroud around it that the hose connects to.
  2. Added picture and lowered price.
  3. I have a Stratus 2 for sale. It includes the unit, Gel dash holder, charger and charger cable. Works great, $675.

    Bad Landing

I would maintain best glide of 105 until I turned final and was assured of making the runway. Then deploy gear, flaps and other maneuvers as necessary to adjust speed and point of touchdown. At our 3000' runway you can pull power at pattern altitude just after the crosswind to downwind turn and make it around with the gear and flaps left up until needed.
  5. They only provide a sample. You will have to write your own specific to your plane's serial number and have your IA submitt it to the FSDO for approval. If it was installed for IFR use the installer should have already done this. Without the FMS it is not IFR legal.
  6. I would remove them and make sure there is no surprises behind them.
  7. I used 2 arms and a double ball joint. It will allow whatever adjustment is necessary to make everything comfortable.
  8. My experience with tempest fine wire plugs for the last 4 year is that there has been no reason to service or clean them. I've heard that a few people have found lead balls in them, but these can be easily removed with a dental pick or safety wire.
  9. Unless accompanied by sheet metal work I would not consider paint touch up damage history. It's normal wear and tear. On a fast plane the leading edge paint takes a beating especially if flown in rain. Paint touch up or wing top side repaint is a common method of extending the life a paint job. Think of it as preservation.
  10. It's a standard hose. MS28741 is the hose type and spec, -3 (3/16) is the diameter and 35 is the length. Any hose shop can make it or there are still mechanics around who don't mind repairing it by replacing the rubber hose and reusing the steel ends.
  11. With a portable vac source, gauge and meter it was pretty easy to adjust both the high and low points. Without them it is going to take a lot of test runs and trial and error.
  12. On mine the adjustment screw was the brass screw in the center. There was a second adjustment screw that can be accessed by removing the switch from the dg. It is up inside the inlet pipe. It can be disassembled and cleaned by manipulating the 3 indented tangs on the rear. It they are flattened a little the internals will slide out.
  13. Then buy the new 2015 model and damage history shouldn't be an issue.
  14. Your going to find very few if any 50 year old planes that doesn't have some minor level of damage either repaired or not.
  15. I've purchased a lot of install supplies from Lane Pilot before. He has most anything needed and gets them out to you quickly. Stein is also a good source for newer stuff, but doesn't always have contacts for older stuff. An audio panel wiring harness is very time consuming. You can expect to spend 30+ hours if you have to connect to multiple com and nav radios. Supplies, shielded wire, contacts, solder sleeves, jacks, ext will cost around $350 http://lane-pilot.com/contacts8260pins_c_16.html
  16. The new King and PSE are made by PSE. The old Kings were made by King. Garmin has always made their own. I don't use Bluetooth for musc either, but it is very useful with foreflight alerts and for phone usage just before takeoff. I have Bluetooth headsets so all the Foreflight alerts come over my headsets. There are also some Bluetooth dongles you can plug into the music jack to give you the same connectivity.
  17. Read bullet 1 and 3 below. Also bullet 1 and 2 above in your past. They are selling 3 light sources and 8 bezels. Each light source can light up to 3 large bezelsor 6 small ones FiberLites by SPT Innovative Fiber-Optic Aircraft Lighting Solutions Superior Panel Technology uses the latest patented fiber-optic technology to evenly illuminate 8 or more instruments/labels with the use of ultra bright white LED light sources. They are affixed to specially designed bezels that are sandwiched between the instrument and the panel for the appearance of an internally lighted instrument. The advantages of using SPT's FiberLites are many: Easier wiring--One LED can illuminate three 3 1/8" instruments or six 2 1/4" instruments. Low current draw. The LEDs only use 20 ma of current. Bulb replacement takes only seconds, as the light source can be placed in an easily accessible location up to 30" from the instruments. They can be connected to our low-cost, solid-state dimming system. FiberLites are lighter, provide uniform 360 degree brightness around the instrument and introduce no heat or electromagnetic interference. FiberLites are rugged, durable and not easily broken. The FiberLite Lighting System offers greater flexibility--they can illuminate instruments and labels. Instrument is not altered in any way. FiberLite optical ribbons have a very thin profile (.013-single layer) and can be used to backlight reverse engraved panels. Much less expensive than internally lighted instruments
  18. I have had the Nulites for 5 years and like them. I've never had a problem with any of them. Each one has 2 bulbs in it. I may still have a couple of extras if anyone is interested in them.
  19. I had the same kma audio panel and ps intercom you have last year. The integrated intercom will free up some panel space and any modern unit you choose is going to give better sound and features. Also be aware that if you plan on putting the audio panel at the very top of the radio stack depth is limited. Some audio panels are rectangular if viewed from the side and will not fit at the very top of the older Mooney radio stacks. Most of the newer ones have a sloped rear section so they are thinner at the very back and will allow you to mount them up closer to the top. The 6000 is a mono unit and the wiring isn't compatible with the newer units from either company. Starting with the garmin 340 and pma8000 units both companies standardized the basic functions wiring pinouts and some trays meaning it's a cheap and easy job to swap from one to the other or newest model made by either company. Also be aware that unless you are installing it yourself the cost of the audio panel is a small part of the total cost of buying and installing one, especially so if you are buying a used unit. I purchased a gma 340 unit about a year ago from someone who wanted to upgrade to the new model with Bluetooth. The unit I purchased was 1 year old and he gave me the install kit that came with his new unit for $700. If I decide I want one of the fancier models in a few years I can simply sell it for around what I paid for it and put in the new model with minimal changes.
  20. I found this list online a few years ago. It was last updated in 2009, but still contains many data points. A phone call could verify. http://www.mooneyevents.com/rent.htm
  21. New injectors from Lycoming are very expensive. Here is a PMA source that is only $60 for a complete injector. Gami is also a possibility if you have to have new ones. http://www.avstardirect.com/products/view/425
  22. The shower of sparks or the left mag isn't working if it cranks when releasing the key. It's also possible to get a very expensive kick back if it doesn't crank. Retard contacts in the left mag in conjunction with the sos will fire the plug at TDC. If it cranks on either mag when the switch is released it is firing the plugs at 25 degrees before TDC. It the starter and prop doesn't have enough momentum to continue in the direction of cranking it is possible for the piston to be shoved back down in the opposite direction of rotation. This can be pretty harsh.
  23. I took advantage of this when I was 39 and got my renewal a little early. Otherwise I would have been getting one at 40, 42 and 44.
  24. It will be much easier to remount the motor if you remove the mount and attach it to the motor 1st and attach the mount and engine to the airframe. The castor shim will also bring the wheel further up and quicker into the wheel well if it is needed. If nothing else is obvious you may want to look at the eccentrics just to make sure that they are both set in the same position. When I 1st got my plane one of the gear preload rods always toted the load and the other was loose. One half turn would swap which rod carried the load and was loose. I finally discovered someone had removed the eccentrics at some point and did not get both back in the same orientation. This is with an older model which does not have the springs integrated into the arms. They are very sensitive to even a small adjustment. Another possibility is that someone may have replaced the bracket that holds the gear door rod and not put it in the correct position on the door. I'm not sure if a new door comes with the bracket or not.
  25. The ARI cowl mod takes care of the paperwork issue. The problem is that unless you can find a good deal on a used one a new spinner alone is about $1800.
