  1. The problem turned out to be a severely fouled plug. Runs fine now.
  2. I had a problem durring mag check today. I suspect a fowled plug as the engine was ran on the ground not fully leaned for a while. I ran it up to 2000 leaned and it seemed to clear itself after a couple of minutes. I few minutes later it was missing again on one cylinder. How do others clear a fowled plug and how long does it take?
  3. My mechanic just gives me a list of what parts are needed and a some recommended places to call and price shop. I order the parts and when they come in he puts them on. He has never asked for anything up front. I can understand paying some up front for large ticket items especially on engine jobs or avionic jobs that can take a few weeks or months to complete. But then again if they don't get their money till there finished they have more incentive to go ahead and finish the job. I would be looking elsewhere very quickly is someone wanted money just reserve a spot for annual.
  4. George, Thanks for the reply. I managed to find a picture of the brace I was asking about. According to Lasar and the Mooney drawing in the part manual the newer F models that came from the factory with the large rear window have this brace as part of the window upgrade. However, of the few planes that I have looked at with the large window upgrade, none of them have this brace.
  5. I have a question for anyone who has upgraded to the one piece rear window. In talking with LASAR about this they said I have to rivet a stiffener along the top of the window frame. It is about 1.25 inches above the top edge of the window and runs from the front to back. It is basically a piece of angle that is about 3/4X3/4 and the length of the window. I've looked at other planes that has the one piece window and do not see this rivet line. Is anyone else installing this stiffner? It would require drilling through the paint, dimpling rivet holes, setting rivets and paint touchup. What has other people who have done this mod done?
  6. Does anyone have any experience with the selant used in replacing the side windows. I believe PR-1422 B-2 is specified. From the research I've done this appears to be a very expensive fuel tank sealant. It this what other poeple have been using? Does it dry hard or remain soft and pliable? Also it is a 2 part adhesive. Does anyone know the work time once the parts are mixed?
  7. My original panel was in pretty bad shape and I wanted to rearrange the pannel to a standard configuration and get both glideslopes on the pilot side panel. I didn't want to spend very much money either. I made the new panel shown below and my mechanic is going to install it next week. It is tuff to fit an 8 pack and a 2-1/4 instrument in the panel, but it can done. There isn't as much clearance on the inside as there is on the outside. I'll post a finished picture when I get it powder coated and installed. It uses the original mounting holes and I don't think it will take over an hour to install it. I havn't done anything with the copilot side yet, but plan to redo it also.
  8. Yes everything is still a go this weekend. There will be a free pancake breakfast and paid barbecue lunch. I dropped some stuff this afternoon and several people had been working hard to get things ready. Its hard to get a accurate count, but we are expecting 30-40 planes. Mike
  9. It is best to talk to Eglin approach on way in. They know what they have in the air and where it is at. Last time I flew in they let me go direct and I didn't have to use the corridor. Also before leaving you have to contact Eglin delivery. There is a sign at the run-up area to remind you. They have 2 FBO's to choose from now.
  10. We just purchased a 67' F a few weeks ago. Durring this process we looked at 5 planes. 4 of the 5 had corrosion problems ranging from minor to severe. It wasn't practical to take a mechanic and remove every expection panel on each of the planes we looked at. This would be a couple of days work. We found one that was corrosion free on the exterior and the wheel wells and inside tailcone were clean. We then had the owner fly it to our mechanic and he removed all the panels and looked in the nookes and crannies. A careful examination of the wheel wells, tailcone, and look behind a couple of the interior panels will give you a pretty good idea if the plane is worth getting a mechanic to do a prebuy. Any deep flaking looking corrosion is a big problem.
  11. A lot depends on the cylinders. Are they new Lycomming, rebored, or chromed? Also there are 2 different kinds of Chrome. Each has it's own break in procedure. If not done correctly you can wind up with a new engine that uses oil.
  12. I cut them out on a milling machine with a digital readout. That makes it easy to go from the dimensions on the prints to a finished part. These took a little longer than expected, but if I ever needed more I'm sure the second set would go faster.
  13. The pedal extensions make things much more comfortable for me (5'8"). It took 2 afternoons to make them. I stuck them in for a few minutes to see how they fit and felt before painting, and was very pleased extra space between me and the yoke.
  14. I have been wanting to do something similiar. Remove the broken and cracked plastic panel and rearrange everything on a sheet of powdercoated aluminum. Does anyone know what paperwork is required to do something like this.
  15. Quote: aerobat95 Hey guys, I never thought it would be as difficult as it is in finding a plane. I love the J's but I think that for what I am looking for as far as engine/airframe time it is going to be out of my price range. So I am thinking that I will end up with a short body Mooney. Question for all you E/F drivers out there....what are you getting for real world cruise speed and fuel flows? I found this Mooney for sale....what do you think? Seems pretty nice to me. Also what is the difference in baggage space? Anyone have the dimensions for the E and F? http://aircraftdealer.com/aircraft_for_sale_detail/Mooney/1969_MOONEY_M20E_CHAPPARAL/28452.htm I would appreciate any and all info you can provide. Thanks. Ray
  16. Quote: eaglebkh I might can make it - is there going to be any activites or food (like an EAA breakfast)? Also, on the sectional chart, 14J is not depicted as having fuel. Is this a new feature for the airport? Thanks for the memo!!!
  17. We are having a free fly in Elba, Al (14J) on Sept 4th. It would be great if some Mooneys showed up. Gas is currently $3.75!
  18. Quote: DaV8or How in the world does that work?? Why would they give you free gas? Is there that much competition in the area for hangers? Are there a lot of empty hangers? Maybe I need to move to Alabama too!!
  19. Elba, Alabama $3.75 fuel $60 month for hanger Airport Authority gave everyone who has a hanger there 40 gallons free this month.
  20. I have the parts and paperwork for a plane that I am in the process of buying. It mentions a stiffener that goes along the top of the window also.
  21. I'm not sure if this is correct, but was told that a STC was not required because later Mooneys came from the factory with this mod.
  22. Could someone post pictures of the 3" rudder pedal extensions? Thanks, Mike
