I saw something similar to that a couple of years ago, except the fuel was purple. After removing the bowl and looking in the screen their was some purple debree in the screen. It was being slowly dissolved by the fuel and coloring it. It didn't come from the plane, it must have been something that got in while fueling.

We flew in to Jack Edwards today for lunch and put-put. ADSB did a good job pointing out traffic. I've been happy with my portable sky guard transmitter.

Picture of fuel flow bracket?

On my f I used brackets clamped to the intake pipes -
I've always declined any extended warrantee's. Sure at some point I will have to pay to have something fixed, but I'll be money ahead in the long term. If it was really that good of a deal why would they be offering it? On vehicles it's almost like prebuying a new engine or transmission that your likely going to never need or get.

An overhaul doesn't set the time back to zero. It also removes any flexibility in how much they have to grind off. They will have to grind off at least the min amount called for in the overhaul manual regardless if it's needed or not. There are also several parts that will have to be replaced regardless if needed or not.

Yes I purchased a new one from Mooney last year through Maxwell. It was drop shipped from Mooney the same day. It was manufactured by McFarland, but McFarland will not sell the Mooney part number to you directly. They will make you a direct replacement for about the same price.

I believe the Chery Max have higher shear strength than a driven rivet.

How Long Will the Engine Run with Fuel Selector OFF
N601RX replied to 22 others's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I think the run time will vary considerably between fuel injection and carb as well as between different makes. Fuel injection will cut off quickly as pressure drops, while the carb continues to run on what is in the bowl as well as from any fuel draining down from the fuel pump and line. Some makes even have the gasolator the firewall so there could easily be several ounces available. 19gph comes out to about .3 gallons per minute. -
A KNS 80 is a nice box that is cheaply available. It will give you a VOR, ILS and DME as well as a virtual VOR function. The install will cost a lot more than the unit.

Are they still in business? I purchased several tubes from them a few years ago, but could not find their website last summer when I needed some more.

The KI 209 uses a composite input signal and is not comparable with GPS units which use left/right inputs. 209A will interface with GPS or most nav radio.

Check the original factory w&b. If your lucky they will show the arms.

Does Garmin issue 8130s with repairs?
N601RX replied to NotarPilot's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Another option to give a potential buyer a good feeling about it is ask the shop removing it to perform a normal cert test on just the transponder and give you the logbook sticker with current date. This should be around $70. -
I would like I'm thinking about going this year. There may be a few others from work interested in going.

I'm an EE also and have done all the avionics in my plane with IA Supervision and 337 sign off. Most anything that can be done by an avionics shop can also be done and signed off by an IA with the exception of the transponder correspondence test and certification. The cost of an audio panel or engine monitor isn't that bad by itself It's the install that really runs the price up You will need to buy a couple of different crimpers and learn a few acceptable ways of terminating shielding and joining wires. Other than that it mostly being able to follow wiring diagrams and manuals. It is also good to be able to look a a couple of nicely done harnesses just to see common methods of doing stuff.

Call ECI and talk with them. They have the ability mate a new barrel to your existing cylinder head. I would not want used cylinders unles they could show me how much time was on them.

I believe the search laws are different if you are near the border. There is a federal exception that allows the search of cars, trains, airplanes ect without a warrant within a certain distance of the border .

It has the ARI cowl mod.

This must have just happened in the last week or so. Try calling the factory and talk to Chris. He was very helpful with the parts he sold me. He might be able to adjust the price if if makes the difference in making a sale. I know they recently did a group buy for the RV guys at a large discount.

Its easily adjusted with the slick toolkit, but the problem then becomes a paperwork issue.
-
I believe if you look in the slick overhaul manual you will see all the internal parts are the same between the 45 and 47. Other than the data plate difference in the 45 and 47 is during assembly the contacts are rotated a little more in one than the other. The Slick T-100 toolkit vise has a degree wheel on the back and the overhaul manual instructs you to set the retard to the amount stamped on the data plate of the mag. It is set in reference to the main points.

Chester CO PA (KMQS) Breakfast on Sat 6th
N601RX replied to GeorgePerry's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Our policy is pretty vague. It says we may use our personal vehicle and accept $.56 per mile as a option to commercial transportation as long as we cap the cost at equal to or less than the commercial transportation. vehicle - a conveyance that transports people or objects -
They are both work together. The retarded point are offset 25 deg from the main points and activate the SOS for a window of about 5deg at TDC. The SOS has its own set of internal points that are opening and closing several hundred times a second and you get several sparks during this window. Its interesting to watch it operate with a plug out of each cylinder with the plugs body still grounded to engine. You can rotate the prop by hand slowly and see the window. I had posted a video a few years ago. Here is a link to the video. Its much longer duration that a single spark from an impulse coupling. Shower of Sparks-1.MOV

I've had one of the dongles for a couple of years and used it to play around with Software Defined Radio. As mentioned above it was originally designed to use with laptops to recieve TV signals. A few years ago a group hacked the drivers to it so that the user could set frequency, gain, bandwidth or sampling rate desired. It just streams the digitized IQ data back to the computer where software algorithms demodulate the data. Because the demod is done in software instead of hardware it doesn't care what the modulation scheme is. Not bad for a $10 device. This is the same device used in the homebrew Stratux. Here is a slightly better one that I have used to capture the 978 out transmission from my plane, it is FM modulated. I was able to demodulate and parse my information from it.

I think the useful life of them depends a lot on how well they are routed and supported. Also if you have a spark plug that opens up with high resistance the voltage is going to increase to the point that it can spark to something. It can either spark through the insulation on the wire to the shield or spark through the adjacent windings on the mag coil damaging them.
