  1. My flight instructor, has a Cirrus to instruct in also, He does not like the plane. He is a retired air line pilot. He prefers the Mooney much more. Pilots can learn in a complex aircraft. I was sixteen, Dad had a Comanche 250 and I learned a lot in that plane, from the right seat and then the left seat. Had maybe 75 hrs. in it, with Dad teaching (not a CFI). My official training was in a C150. During my Student days, I was signed off in the Comanche with about an hour of dual. What does the Air Force and Navy teach in today? My biggest complaint in most air craft are price, usable fuel, range and useful load. Generally longer flights are just the 2 of us, and 700 + miles per fuel stop. Yes I have flown over 5 hours in my F. Fuel stop and then another 4 + to me destination many times. Many aircraft can't do this. A third leg to make this flight would make it to long to complete in a single day. Ron
  2. I am looking at this differently. In my Vintage F, the effects to me are: An HSI instead if a DG and VOR Head. I instrument instead of 2. I could get rid of my vacuum system with both G5's. I have a GNS 430W with GPSS to drive my Stec 30 with Altitude hold. I could gain space for an EDM 900 or 930, or mount a G796 in the panel. The minus for me, is the my DG can drive the Stec 30 autopilot, and my vacuum pump has 15 hours on it. Ron
  3. That Island is part of Los Angeles County and then the EPA requirements are horrible. The stories that I herd about the environmental impact reports, to get an asphalt plant over there were horrible. They ended up moving a plant there just to repave the runway and then had to remove the plant back to the main land. Hope they can do it again. Ron
  4. I use wn b pro. Easy to use, run a bunch of possible samples and you will have your answers I have an excellent spreadsheet also for 69F. Email me at n9154v@aol.com for the excell sheet. Ron
  5. I start my descent when the 496 says approx. 300 ft. per minute. I usually at about 400 ft per minute with the extra speed. Ron
  6. But, what is proper value. Some of us have way to many improvements in them to ever get the money out of them. In 8 years I started with a good F, and now I have spent over a$100,000 on it, and still need/want more. Ron
  7. I just learned about he ODP's. I had to look for 5 minutes using wing-x pro to find it. Thanks again to Mooneyspace for teaching me more. Ron
  8. Yes. I have a pilot yoke on my co-pilot side. When my pc system was installed I had dual pc disconnects and dual push to talk. I also have clocks in both yokes. Ron
  9. I have 500 hours in a 310G. I have had an engine failure in it, on takeoff, just before rotation. It was not fun. But I kept it on the runway. A 310G will fly and climb on 1 engine, I have done this many times in practice. You must stay current and practice. If you are above single engine service ceiling the plane will start a controlled slow descent, hopefully there is a runway available soon, before you run out of airspace. the descent rate will depend on your density altitude above the single engine service ceiling. You can fly a long ways on 1 engine if needed. Again practice and be current. On the 310G, stall is 80mph, vmc was 80 also, rotation at 95mph, vyse 114mph and vyme 126mph. Cruise climb is 140mph. Cruise speed is 185Knots and 25 gph. All Speeds can and will very by aircraft weight, and CG. If you are in your Mooney, an engine failure anywhere, the decision is made for you, you are going down, hopefully a runway is available. I fly a Mooney, I would have another 310 if I could afford the maintenance, fuel and the costs to stay current and proficient. I can afford to do these in my Mooney.
  10. I can't make it next Saturday. Other plans in the works. But lets try it again soon. Ron
  11. Western sierra's shows rain sat thru Tuesday.
  12. Also in 69 all F's have electric gear and flaps standard 6 pack instrument layout. So many have mods, they are much more similar to J's, than earlier manual gear Mooney's. Ron
  13. Weather reports are looking good so far. Ron
  14. Maybe this should be the first aircraft in the Mooney Museum? Stacey???
  15. Sorry auto correct. FSS not fess. Ron
  16. Mitch. Is the Awos going to be connected to fess? KMPI is not. Ron
  17. I have landed there many times in my F and a C310. Put the plane on speed and you can land easily. Ron
  18. Greg did my tanks August of 2015 for me. They do not leak. They were done on time, on budget per the quote. Greg will also help you connect with airline flights. I had done a couple of patches in my F. My sealant was original 1969. It was still solid, just weak in a couple of areas. I have experience in looking for roof leaks and repairing them, the procedures are similar. I would not try to do a complete strip and reseal on my own, with or without supervision. Ron
  19. Hopefully We can join you also. Ron
  20. I saw my personal Dr. at Kaiser yesterday, bad news on other stuff. She did say that She would sign the Medical form, after all, who knows me better medically than her. She did ask about the Cardiologist, and I told her that those requirements would not be required anymore, but I do feel that they would be a great idea to continue with. Ron
  21. I can look next week when I go to the airport. Lasar did mine 8-18. I know that they used pull through rivets on many of the speed mods installed. Ron
  22. In my F, class A is impractical for me. Now if I had a turbo, I would have to rethink this. Ron
  23. Is one tank airworthy enough to ferry the plane to a Fuel tank reseal shop. There are at least 4 in the USA, probably more. Can 1 tank be patched to get it to a reseal shop? Patching is not hard, but is temporary. I got at least 5 or more years out of my patches. Could a top coat be applied to stop the powdering affect going on, again to take the plane to a reseal shop. There must be another way, keep looking. I am not a fan of bladders, I did have my tanks resealed 18 months ago in Troutdale Oregon and was very happy with the results. Others have taken there planes half way across the country to get them done. Ron
  24. AC 68-1 Appendix A is the form for the basic med. I am going to drop a copy off, or possibly see my DR. to see if this is something that She can sign. Kaiser will not do Drivers license medicals, but She did state if She can call this a "physical" She probably could. My nest step would be to contact my AME to see what steps He may require. I am on a SI and am over 40. I jump thru the hoops yearly. Younger healthier pilots may want to keep up the 3rd class physical, it may be simpler. Ron
