  1. Fantastic Pirep Paul! Proof that cylinders can go the distance... Even in turbo Mooneys..! Thanks for sharing the details. Best regards, -a-
  2. Welcome back VAce! Its been a while... Congrats on having good health... Lets get started. Did you say you have some Mooney experience already? Best regards, -a-
  3. Let’s see if Rob is around... @takair Message for you above... ^^^^ -a-
  4. Check the owners manual... They may have one online... There may be a list of common issues... Including things like the vent got closed/blocked... and air can’t get in the tank... For lead to be a problem, it would need to evaporate in the same place, a lot, over time... not just one tank drying up... The nice thing about 100LL... it is very stable, and doesn’t evaporate very quickly... under most conditions... -a-
  5. Message for @Old Chub... above. -a-
  6. If speed and efficiency are important... Go Mooney! If buying a brand name is what works for you... follow the crowd at PiperSpace... With an entry level Mooney... you have a real Mooney... Visit BT and ask if the Sundowner section is a cool place to hangout... is a sundowner a real beach? Expensive and slow... sounds beachy.... hmmm... I owned a Ranger, then an Ovation... now a Standing O... What is a Sundowner..? Would I tell anyone I owned one? Would they know what it is..? No matter what plane you select... the PPI is the best protection for your wallet... Briefly... A Mooney is the fasted, four seat, factory built, airplane... on or off the planet... Anyone can fly a Mooney... PP thoughts only, not selling any planes myself... Best regards, -a-
  7. Spare room in the panel... ? Consider an AOAi in that location... Closer to the top of the panel for easy scanning during landing... is best... A few MSers have used the CYA100(?) with good results... Possibly a good place to put the CO monitor, if it fits... Best regards, -a-
  8. Applied to Mooney flight... MP, RPM, and yes... FF too... before committing to flight in my Mooney... These numbers are easy to scan prior to airspeed alive... Anyone get any recent 737 Max time yet? Best regards, -a-
  9. 15 years! Welcome aboard, Dave! MS has only been around for about a decade... But, that doesn’t matter... you are here now! Best regards, -a-
  10. So I looked that one up, and shared it... https://www.lenscrafters.com/lc-us/vision-guide/hd-lenses -a-
  11. High power sort of dictates the use of 100LL... It would be really nice to have a fuel that was low cost and didn’t dissolve pump, tank and engine seals... Look up Swift Fuels... see what they have lately... it is lead free, but lower in octane... Would probably work well for cruise portions of flight and early descent only... Detonation is the phenomena that we need to avoid... and 100LL does that really well... Best regards, -a-
  12. Speaking of the best wife’s club... Stig just bought a Mooney... He reported his wife doing the delivery flight... MS has a few husband/wife flying teams... a couple of parent/child teams as well... Best regards, -a-
  13. Nidal, You have a great system... You have have covered many evils that can occur... to a wide array of pilots... There is one thing that Mooney pilots will be looking for in addition to all that you have done... It may take years to get there... and that is OK. What Mooney pilots are running into lately... Is a combination of retractable gear and age... at no fault of their own... Insurance companies are raising rates for these people to alarming levels... alarming = more than the cost of a Mikrokit system... We aren’t seeing any alarming raise in GU landings with age around here... But we are sure seeing the raise in insurance costs... The human brain is known to have minor overloads in times of high work levels... named ‘distraction’. So... if there is a way to measure Landing height and compare gear status... and alarm upon a mismatch... I’d like my alarm to use Parker’s voice reminding me that... “now would be a good time to lower the gear, don’t you think?” Parker is our local MS insurance guy... The moment I hear his voice, I would know what needs to be done... now! Not later... If it only alarms when necessary, it would go a long way towards cutting back on the phenomena of distraction... And really reduce the opportunities for GU landings... The current system of pulling power with gear up... only sounds a buzzer... buzzers are good, but are easy to ignore when work load is high... (I’ll get back to that in minute... oops) Some people have added voice to replace the buzzer... but, power gets pulled quite often in attempts to slow down... causing a bunch of early alarms that occur often... Another voice system many MSers have is José’s wife’s calming voice... You may recognize her... “traffic ahead...” José probably hasn’t had a good night’s rest in years.... constant teasing by his wife... Mooney PP thoughts only... Best regards, -a-
  14. There were a bunch of people buying portable generators a while back... There has got to be some experience to be shared... See if anything stands out from this list... https://mooneyspace.com/search/?q=Portable generator&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_and_or=and See who we can invite to the discussion... Best regards, -a-
  15. +1 for something being amiss... Blowing a 5A fuse... tanks a handful of amps... Which isn’t normal for small light bulbs or Hobbs meters... No matter how long they get left on... Be on the look out for some damaged wire insulation? PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a-
  16. What was the OAT? If really cold... expect to use more fuel to prime than usual... Once started with the choke full on... slowly adjust the choke towards being off... It will take being warmed before the choke can be completely turned off may take a minute or two.... This came from our last operation of the leaf blower, and first operation of the snow blower for the year... Leaf blowers used on snow are funny... they make great snow blowers... literally. It’s also a nice way to run the tank out. PP thoughts only, not a small motor mechanic... Best regards, -a-
  17. If you have any PSEngineering questions... They have great customer service... Mark is around here often... @ mscheuer Best regards, -a-
  18. More... stable powerful integrity speed altitude grace climb rate Less... cost ugly slowness limitations Changes... More instrument panel space than needed... Color screens galore... Fantastic engine data... Fantastic nav data... More options than ever... Spare AIs and GPSi Weather displayed right in the cockpit... Nothing better than buying a Mooney today... I’m sure Al Mooney would be impressed with the capabilities of today’s M20Cs... Pick a plane you can use for decades... and enjoy... Go Mooney! PP thoughts only, not a plane sales guy.... Best regards, -a-
  19. Begrudging... Unusual... Hard to relate or understand some days... And imperfect on other days... 1) for one low price my Idevices all use the same subscription of WingX... the same gov data, in a different format... uses available waas technology... 2) for a few dollars more I get the blue dot on my IAPs.... Showing exactly where I am with touch screen convenience...... 3) For many dollars, I get one subscription for one device, for awesome WAAS accuracy... yet, our planes may have several GPSi (I = plural) 4) Often the GPSi are all manufactured by the same manufacturer... 5) There are MSers... that have enough dough, that this isn’t an issue... Yay for them, great people to learn from... 6) There are MSers... that have enough cognitive capacity to remember which database is current, and which are not... Yay for them, everybody gets a different level of cog capacity, that is hard to improve, and can easily fade... 7) There are enough MSers... who’s cognitive speed is so high, they can do trouble shooting of data base errors on the fly... 8) There are enough MSers who’s currency is the best... using an expensive database spread out over 250 flying days every year... the updates cost a few dollars per day... tiny compared to the fuel costs... 9) Something has changed in the last decade... there isn’t much discussion of how to update individual approaches in a database by hand... 10) One thing hasn’t changed... of the two guys that started Garmin, one is still running the company... since inception.. 11) Oddly, Garmin has only recently passed the all time stock price set back in 2007... leading up to the Great Recession... 12) for some reason, even big G has difficulty delivering all the databases without errors... It can be tough to afford, or pay, for such fantastic big G devices... The good news... The more you fly, the less it costs per hour.... It is important to know what works for YOU... Stay current in skills, AND databases... PP thoughts only...I have more BK devices than big G devices... Best regards, -a-
  20. One of the topics that new owners come across that makes little to no sense for some... Some people don’t lock their planes... Some people are looking for moderate protection... Some people would prefer the lock too look like protection, but not damage the door, when the lock gets pried out... Some people park in hazardous unprotected areas and take all the protection they can get... The MSC is the place to get all of your Mooney key requirements and a POH... https://mooneyspace.com/search/?q="Medeco key"&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy Best regards, -a-
  21. They skipped the detail of the cam lobes and followers... They did show the roller followers as their example. Great details... Best regards, -a-
  22. Welcome aboard Ev! @Doug Schumacher hasn’t been by in a while... I sent a ping to see if he is still connected... If you want to describe what you are seeing... We can probably give some insight... Go MS! Best regards, -a-
  23. Connecting some threads together... no news... -a-
  24. Our missing Mooniac in Western Canada was too far away from cell towers to be found... It required the spring thaw to reveal the plane... Not sure why the ELT did give any help... Best regards, -a-
  25. Marc, Look around when you have time... We have many European MSers as well... there is also a European section on MS... There is also a European site, that those MSers visit often... After a while you get to know many MSers... you may recognize them in other places... The world wide brotherhood of Mooniacs... Go MS! -a-
