As far as cabin width goes... There seems to be some misrepresentation that goes with that... Depends on measuring shoulders vs. hips... Mooneys are actually wider than the competition... It’s the laws of physics that keeps them similar in size... If you and your SIC are both under 300LBs... I think this is a non issue... Above that, there are strategies that help... The best way to find out is sit in one... or a Corvette... If you get a chance... Take Hank up on his offer... He has great insight on Mooney ownership... With 100hrs flight experience, you are in a normal range of experience to begin ownership... The plane that Ken posted above is a nice example of a popular Mooney used for traveling... There are some planes with the latest and greatest avionics in them... where the instrument panel cost as much as the plane does... If you are in the military... thanks for your service... If not... what brings you to Rocket City? Best regards, -a-

Well... That is certification nightmare #1 Very few companies have the ability to certify in several countries at the same time... Or even share their schedule of certification with the public... The good news... it has been successfully certified in the US... So... most of the certification testing has been completed... not like there are different laws of physics in Canada... but operating temps may get much colder there in winter... Options... flying an N numbered aircraft can be done... a solution often used in the EU... Installing at risk... installing it, prior to certification... ties up a lot of money in a plane that is technically not AW without certification documents... (super nightmare) wait on Dynon... to announce intentions, then complete the work... There are three ways trusting an avionics supplier works... BAD: The BK example... It will be available in Q3... then never give the year... Middle Zone: The Garmin/Mooney lock-up... where it takes two companies working together to get something certified... certification money is seasonal... no two companies share the same high seasons... Best ever seen: Garmin has been certifying their new AP.... they have been posting on their website the proposed schedule... and updating it over time... The interesting part... when certification in a Mooney is going on... Somebody on MS is going to know it... because their plane is being used... The companies need to keep installs controlled, because it gets in the way of the end user, when missteps occur... Overall rule of thumb, in avionics.... buy what is available today. Because, it requires too many organizations, money, and time, working together to complete the certification process... If you had a Mooney... you could live somewhere warmer and commute... The risk of attempting the install on unusable avionics is incredibly real... either they don’t ever get produced, or by the time they do...BK example #2... The most recent nav screens use VGA graphics... similar to an old desktop PC I had somewhere, back when... We can also get some insight from Greg.. @Baker Avionics PP thoughts only, not an avionics guru... Best regards, -a-

RM, What you are describing... is the thing that supports the control tube... That support, is what skip called the carrier bearing... It keeps the tube from flexing over the long distance.... It still needs to be lubricated... Expect there to be a defined grease point... particular grease... and a procedure to apply it... If slathering were the method... you probably would see remnants of it everywhere... like the Jack screw... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a-

IO550G-AP Overhaul - should I switch to an `N`?
carusoam replied to ronr's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
For more info regarding the situation... https://mooneyspace.com/search/?q=Pixie hole&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_and_or=and A topic I should share with @Davidv (airflow improvements for Ovation cowlings) Best regards, -a- -
Welcome aboard Marty! Reddit is a pretty busy place this week... GME vs. the Shorts.... It doesn’t matter how you got here... but... You came to the right place... About that 1200nm range... 130gal tanks are an option, 100gal is standard for long bodies.... 7hour legs are pretty long people that fear the word ‘Experimental’ posted in a plane, may not like 7hr legs at first... Now... If you like... 1) Speed 2) Efficiency 3) Comfortable for four, super comfortable for two... (remember that Gatorade bottle?) 4) Factory built to last for several decades... 5) If you stop for fuel... Mooneys can and do fly across the Atlantic Ocean... how far do you want to go? Go Mooney! Best regards, -a-

IO550G-AP Overhaul - should I switch to an `N`?
carusoam replied to ronr's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Cirrus uses the N, that’s why I invited Doc to stop by... he has a few Brand Ci customers for reference... Could be that brand Ci drivers don’t watch their CHTs very closely... As for CHT#5 being the hot one... check your cowling inlet on that side to see if there is a pixie hole... allowing some air in around the hardware mounted there... The pixie hole improves the difference in #5s CHT, but didn’t eliminate the challenge on my bird... Its amazing that the CHTs are so close together... balancing cooling air flow is tough to change... Early on... in 1994 when the IO550 was first installed in the Ovation... there were a bunch of oil cooler leaks... Mooney had one or two... Cirrus had a number closer to 10... The oil cooler is an engine part and comes directly from Continental... Best regards, -a- -

Could be mechanical... Could be software... When the fuel level was being calibrated... one gallon at a time... did something happen out of the ordinary? Or did this situation just appear to have started recently? Is there an easy method to check the output from an individual float sensor? A request we can send to our Cies guy... @fuellevel Best regards, -a-

CIES FUEL SENDERS & LOW FUEL ANNUNCIATOR
carusoam replied to LANCECASPER's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
That could be alarming... or not. Lets ask the @fuellevel Cies guy... (adding low level fuel alarm to fuel floats, that is standard for some Mooneys) Memory issues can be a bear... forgetting to check fuel status over a long period of time is more easily possible... The light coming on, on the panel, is a last chance for not running out of fuel... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... or memory expert. Best regards, -a- -
Emergency Landing | Baggage Door Blow Off Mid Flight | Model K
carusoam replied to RedSkyFlyer's topic in General Mooney Talk
Chuck, I am in the fully closed or fully open camp as well... I also am the only one that closes the baggage door... On windy days, people try to be helpful and want to lower the door... It gets closed and latched, but not locked... Side note... I have also had the benefit of first responders... (non-aviation, 10 years ago...) Best regards, -a- -
IO550G-AP Overhaul - should I switch to an `N`?
carusoam replied to ronr's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Typical (g) cylinder... all the fins look similar to each other... Typical (n) cylinder... Two different fins, changed every other fin... Still looking for a pic... this one is too low res to show the fin differences... and the pic requires pushing the view button to see it... every other fin is long, short, long, short... They are easy to tell by looking at them in real life... -a- 78B4D66A-C226-4976-ACE5-1DA51ED7F0B3.webp -
IO550G-AP Overhaul - should I switch to an `N`?
carusoam replied to ronr's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Ron, Sounds like you are fully informed... I went (N) cylinders based solely on weight... The TopProp adds a Few pounds to the nose... The (N) cylinders look pretty cool... and remove a couple of pounds each... Where the (N) cylinders may fall down... they have experienced more cylinder cracks, but this is from other airplane’s experience... The (N) cylinders were all about improved cooling, using a funky different fin design... My (G) cylinders didn’t have any difficulty staying cool... @280hp.... We could ask @M20Doc because he sees a lot of those other airplanes... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- -
Did they give you a reason for that? When you have the reason... then seek assistance from @M20Doc... Clarence is familiar with the Canadian regs... There are going to be a bunch of people that will want to follow your lead... We can also invite Greg to the conversation... @Baker Avionics Best regards, -a-

Need Dukes Fuel Pump p/n 1499-00-21 for '69 M20C
carusoam replied to TexMooney's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Check to see if it’s really NPT there... if so, does it use Teflon tape? Teflon tape has been eliminated from most of the Mooneys... There is one or two spots that still may have it... The problem with Teflon tape...it can easily show up downstream... after it sheds some bits... Use care... do you have a parts manual, and a maintenance manual..? PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- -

Throttle Replacement for M20C 1962
carusoam replied to Boilermonkey's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Holy cow... Nothing like running out of power when a control cable decides it’s time to retire... Cables typically get replaced at each engine OH... in modern times... Kind of like tossing out a vac pump at 500 hours... The typical method of cable replacement... send the whole thing to Mcfarlane... this is the method of owner supplied parts... Rebuilding it from bits and pieces will probably lead to disappointment later... Since you was in there... check the status of the prop and mixture controls as well... How many hours do they have? PP thoughts only. Not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- https://www.mcfarlaneaviation.com/articles/engine-controls/content/ -

Pictures are important... Color, size, hardness... Even if you can’t recognize what it is... somebody around here probably has a similar picture... All rubber components are suspect.... review where all the rubber parts are in your fuel system starting at the tanks and working towards the FIs Some 60s fuel tanks still have a mild steel fuel neck... if you are seeing rust particles in your sumps... get a look at the back side of the fuel neck... Might be good to include The good doctor in the conversation... @M20Doc PP thoughts only, not a mechanic or a great communicator... Best regards, -a- -
Expect by measuring the body’s response to the vaccine... the concentration of the anti-bodies must reach a certain level to be considered affective... Expect that the media reports have simplified things down a bit to make them more understandable to everyone... it sounds like a very large percentage of the population gets a good response from their anti-body production... Even a crummy response gives the body a better chance of defending against an acquired infection... The fda recently approved the mixing of the suppliers of each dose... if needed... if you got the first shot from Pfizer, and only the Moderna Shot was available next... PP thoughts only, not a doctor... read a couple of biology books once... and some CNBC... Best regards, -a-
