  1. I attempted to create a set via waterjet. My intention was to be able to share the cad file so they could be produced at a local level for whoever needed them. The problem is that both sides have the degree scale and we could only jet the degree scale on one side as it was impossible to set the aluminum back in the precise position to create the degree scale on the opposite side. I ended up marking them by hand with a sharpie. The Mooney boards are very intricate and a work of art.
  2. Turtle, we really are but caretakers to these machines for a season. Your Mooney chapter may be ending but there is someone out there who will take over and care for your bird as you did when the baton was passed to you. I have thought about doing the experimental thing myself as I love to turn wrenches and have an inclination for anything mechanical. When the time is right, you will know. My condolences regarding the loss of your friend. In time you will be able to smile when you remember some of the adventures you shared flying in your Mooney. My CFI died of cancer too. He was very health conscious and in shape and it shouldn't have happened to him. I still talk to him when I fly and I can hear jim in my head, giving me instruction....and it makes me smile. Best wishes, Steve
  3. That one has some damage history, but mine does as well. I've been eyeing it for a while also. Let me know if you go check it out, I'd like to see it.
  4. @FastTex PM and pics sent.
  5. What? Can you speak up a little?
  6. Hi @FastTex, I have a jackshaft assembly in my hangar that came from a 1975 F model with electric flaps. Not sure of the part number. Do you have any pictures? There’s one on ebay with a-001 superseded by a-503 part number. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mooney-M20F-Jackshaft-Flap-Control-Assy-P-N-750093-001-Use-750093-503-/232212430952
  7. Same topic over at the Jet Careers site a couple of years ago...interesting read. https://forums.jetcareers.com/threads/anr-headsets-and-tinnitus.232480/
  8. @hmasing I have a set that came from a 1975 F model in my hangar. I'll be at the airport today and get some pics if you’re interested.
  9. Is that when all the retirees in Florida move to Jersey?
  10. @MATTS875 Try John Gostinger here: John Gostinger LL Johns & Associates, Inc. o: 248-666-4400 | o: 800-662-4401
  11. Congrats Jeremy, i love the belly/underwing paint scheme. Nice looking bird! Check out https://www.mooneysummit.com/ There is a waiting list for registration this fall, but you’re close to the event location. Great experience with great people and knowledgable presenters. Looks like you will be a great servant to your new Master...uh Ranger that is. Steve
  12. In addition to having aviation embedded in my blood, I have been blessed (or cursed) to be a car enthusiast as well. BAT is an auction site that I frequent that has some outstanding examples of exotics, classics, collectibles and plane dogs. Today I was surprised to find an Aeronca Chief on the block out of Georgia. They auctioned a Champ last May which sold for $18,000. Thought some of you might enjoy taking a look at the site. I apologize in advance if you spend your avionics upgrade fund on a classic Ferrari. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1939-aeronca-chief-65-la/
  13. What a job...Mooney test pilot. I'm glad we had Mr. Miles to experiment for us in order to help keep us safer in our Moonies. I never met him, but I'm sure I would have enjoyed having a conversation with Mike. Godspeed brother.
  14. Tony, How long have you been gone from Orlando? It has changed a-lot. Have you considered some of the suburban area’s? Hangar rent will be cheaper as well as your home, Less car traffic and air traffic too. X35 is a great airport, hangars run around $250/mo. You can get a nice home on the Rainbow river for about the same as a small home on a a little lot in WP. Leesburg has some great lakefront properties and the airport is towered and not much traffic. Have you visited The Villages? If not, it’s worth a look. Ocala has hangars for around $325 and reminds me of Altamonte Springs from the 1980’s as far as traffic and things to do. Ocala has Leeward air ranch and Jumbolair too. Daytona is pretty congested but Spruce Creek is truly an amazing aviation community. Palm Coast is a hidden gem. Flagler airport is great and you can live on the beach or inter-coastal waterway for about the same as Winter Park or Baldwin Park. Melbourne and Palm Bay have come a long way. Nice airport, probably hard to get a hangar though. Winter Haven, Bartow and Lakeland have great airports. No idea what hangar rents go for maybe someone else can chime in. West of town is growing but there aren't any airports. No matter where you end up in central FL, you'll have great flying wx most of the year.
  15. Insurance cost might be a factor to consider as well.
  16. She’s a beauty! Enjoy!
  17. Nice Mooney, congrats and welcome.
  18. Thanks for sharing Fred. My aviation mentor was Bob Pratt and like your Dave, there was nothing he couldn't fix. Bob taught me to fly allowed me to assist in annuals and was a genuinely good person. I'm sorry for your loss, but count yourself fortunate to have had a friend such as Dave.
  19. I had a tab broken off at some point and didn't find it till annual. My mechanic and I were replacing a bad steering horn and I was going to have the truss powder coated. After glass beading the truss, I noticed that moisture would form at the break where the tab was. I showed my mechanic and we determined it was coming from inside the truss tube. Even though the tabs prevent the truss tube from being dented, the break in the metal allows micro tears in the metal and moisture into the tube. I would have it replaced.
  20. Congrats Andy, Fly up to OCF sometime and I'll buy you lunch at Tailwinds cafe. Steve
  21. I’ve had my LASAR truss tab broken completely off by an FBO. Even though the tube was not bent, the break allowed moisture into the tube I’m assuming through micro tears in the metal. When my mechanic noticed what appeared to be rusty water forming at the break, we decided to replace it. I don't know how long it was broken. It must have been a while for moisture to form.
  22. Thanks for posting Andrew and thanks for giving your talk at the Summit. Your presentation was top notch.
  23. Hello all, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed some relaxing time with their families. I was high bidder at this year’s Summit for the original art work donated by @bonal and am absolutely delighted with the painting. I would like to thank John for donating his talent to the Mooney Summit as well as those of you who support the event. If you have not been, I would highly recommend attending next year and will guarantee you will come away a better, safer pilot. John was a pleasure to work with. He truly enjoys painting and loves Mooneys, who better to commission for a painting of your Mooney? After sending some photos to John, we discussed my flying experiences and settled on a background of the Great Smoky Mountains (Clingman’s Dome) since that is the most visually dramatic portion of my frequent trips from Ocala to Dayton. John kept me posted via email on the progress and even had the painting framed before sending it. He is a class act! I have my original of 88V hanging over my desk in my home office and have received many compliments. Thank you John.
