  1. I think it’s used for HP calculation.
  2. On the J it has elevator springs and the fact the rudder is connected to the front wheel, I think it would take near hurricane strength winds to cause them to hit their stops, I just tie the yokes together to prevent the ailerons hitting. If severe storms are forecasted, I would put it in a hangar.
  3. You need flashing 360° coverage: beacon or strobes, recognition lights no because they only face forward.
  4. No step for me, so I leave the flaps down so my foot doesn’t catch getting in/out.
  5. Gotta love those tail winds..How was the ride?
  6. First I tried vinyl tubing, the hot engine caused it to soften and pop off. Then I went with standard fuel hose, no problem since.
  7. The JPI can share the OAT along with fuel data with 430 (at least it does for the GTNs).
  8. I would try it while at home. They made me feel sick.
  9. I added the AV20S as a tiebreaker in case the Garmin system went down, I think you have the room under the G5.
  10. I think you need to go to 4 characters to get one without paying the premium. I’m boring and went with my initials.
  11. Mine are pretty accurate (J) except at limits (full/empty), the gauges are only marked in 5 gallon increments, I’d say they’re accurate within 2 gallons. You should be able to look into the fuel filler port and check the position of the float.
  12. $15k for 3 servos would be a good estimate, there’s a lot of labor, don’t forget about the time to remove the old equipment.
  13. If I was Seth I would clean up the throttle knob or replace the entire cable assembly, it makes a bad first impression.
  14. Vinyl is permanent, it’s used on boats all the time and lasts for decades, boat regs are similar except they use the word “durable” instead of “permanent”. Just because you can remove it without damaging the paint doesn’t mean it’s not permanent. Now using masking tape would be considered not permanent.
  15. If you want shorter N number, avoid multiple syllables: 2MG is shorter than 7RJ
  16. Or just put in 12v outlet in a more convenient location, that way you will be able to use UCB-X ports 10 years from now.
  17. I do not, this was covered by Mike Busch in one of his videos. Electrical components have a industry standard which they use. Replacing certain components (switches, etc) only requires a signature in the logbook. Maybe you need to find another avionics shop.
  18. No on TSO, but they have to have certain specifications: amps/voltage/etc.
  19. We’re surrounded by a steel cage, the non ferrous metal backing of the insulation is the least of your worries.
  20. Any competent avionics shop should be able to handle this. You should be able to just sketch what you want and they can do the rest.
  21. So can you tell the condition of a teflon hose from the outside? Regular hoses would get stiff or maybe crack…do teflon hoses do this?
  22. Mine (78) is more on the side by the vent on copilot’s side. FWIW
  23. I lowered it to ~30 IIRC, it was originally set to something like 75.
  24. Engine has 1700 SMOH, seems silly not to overhaul the engine IF they had to tear it down to do necessary inspection after a prop strike? First thing Id ask to see is the logs, but personally I would not touch it.
  25. Since JPI uses RPM, MAP, FF, OAT to calculate HP I see no reason to be checking those as well.
