Hello MooneySpace Forumonians,

I'm a new member of Mooneyspace but a long time lurker/learner and a Mooniac since 3/21/2010. I separated from the Air Force in 2011 being a Crew Chief on the F-15 C/E and the F-22A Raptor. I would like to get my A&P for grins and giggles but have no experience on "little airplanes." I am curious if anybody here is or knows an A&P I can shadow to learn what I need to know for the oral and practical, as I have passed the three written tests. I'm pretty good with a wrench, a fast learner, and lunch will be on me (oh, now I have everybody's attention.) Thanks for any help and hope to meet some of you in the future.

Thanks!

Darin

I believe one cannot take the tests if they don't have the prerequisite experience. I could be wrong. Regardless, Form 8610 in hand.

Lets see on my practical I had to do a dye penetrant check on a spinner, run a line of rivets on two scraps of sheet metal. Preflight and start a Baron. Do a compression check and time the mags on the same Baron. Fill out a 337 for an air filter change. Do a W/B for a helicopter. Rewire the starting circuit on an APU/GPU from a schematic. Describe all the components on an old jet engine. And we talked about regulations for about an hour.

Good luck on getting you A&P I hope you can take just the test.  I assume as crew chief you did inspections and repairs on the jets you mentioned?

Even with the greatest respect I have for our service men and women, I have said before that the military does a disservice to our service men.  Those who are working on our military aircraft should have been taken through the process of getting their A&P and IA ratings from the FAA so that upon leaving the military they have the paper in their hands showing the rest of the country what they can do.  This should apply to any task that is performed in the military where there is a nationally recognized certificate.

Yes, I did everything with the exception of ordinance loading and electrical work. No luck yet on finding anybody. I asked a few shops at Centennial and for litigation purposes it is not allowed.

They are some weekend and one week classes that offer the practical test at the end of the week and guarentee a pass or a free retake.
