Hello - wondering if anyone has a link to a helpful guide on replacing the tailpipe on an M20J?  (1991 Model - MSE, in case it makes a difference).

Thanks.

That's not a difficult job.    The maintenance manual is probably a good reference.   It is available for download here, I believe.

Remove the rubber hanger, then remove the three bolts at the ball joint. Put some C5-A anti seize on the ball joint when reassembling. It is easiest if you install the rear bolt/spring first when reassembling the ball joint. The springs lose tension from heat. Aircraft Spruce sells them if you need to replace them. Make a new rubber hangar - they crack eventually from the heat, so you might as well replace it now. There is a recent thread on MS about options for the hanger.

Guy, would you permanently need a part/system to duplicate, or just a loan?  ie is it a destructive process on your end?  I'm replacing Knisley system on my J very soon with a Power Flow, and once I'm satisfied with the performance I'll very likely sell my old system.  I believe it does use a stock/standard tail pipe.  I'd happily loan you my take-off system for as long as you need it so long as I can have it back to sell.
