I'm told the two circuits (switches) tend to fail in some association and 2. You can't really tell without, well, testing the safety mechanism. Which I would never do unless it's on jacks.. Had to deal with this last year (bad heater switch, not an inadvertent retraction...) 1

In 15+ years on here I've never seen that happen. It usually takes us about 10 minutes to figure out which airplane it is anyway. The Mooney community is small and tight-knit. People on here share lessons that they've learned. We don't charge each other for that. I might share one thing today but it's likely I'll need two things tomorrow. That's the community that we are. It's a net win for everyone that contributes. Except I bought a plane not even lance knew about... And he helped with some log review. Although I am paying dearly as he said I would initially... Here's another one: https://www.controller.com/listing/for-sale/237373539/2007-mooney-acclaim-piston-single-aircraft . . . There was also at least one Acclaim that had A/C, TKS and Monroy Long Range Tanks. I love long range tanks, but not sure how you would ever use the long range tanks on that airplane. I remember seeing at least one Acclaim fully-loaded on Controller back when they were fairly new. AC, TKS, Monroy tanks...there likely was nothing else that could be added, except for higher gross weight. I distinctly remember calculating the entire payload with full tanks was 77 lbs! It should be criminal to deliver a certified airplane like that IMO.
Aaviationist Posted Monday at 09:37 PM Report Posted Monday at 09:37 PM You’re reselling the results of your pre-buy? lol good luck. 1
Mark89114 Posted Tuesday at 01:52 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 01:52 PM I can understand the need/desire to recoup some of your costs on bad decisions, hell I have lots of them. Still waiting for something/anything to come back. However, this situation is different. You just spent $5K on a decision that didn't work out, that is enough red flags as it is. I would give the results away to anybody in the aviation community to keep them from making a bad decision. We as a community would all be better off if we worked to call out bad players and decisions without getting too judgmental. 4
exM20K Posted Tuesday at 02:23 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 02:23 PM What is salvage value on an acclaim? 15 SMOH Engine ($75,000)? prop ($15,000) cowling (unobtainable if carbon fiber) G1000 and GFC700 ($75,000) interior, speed brakes, and the rest? I have no idea what salvage value looks like. Do you @Parker_Woodruff? -dan

You'd be amazed at what people will pay for certain airplanes (had one recently that had to be double or triple what I thought it was worth) and then be surprised how some salvage auction seems like a small fraction of what should be paid for a plane with many very usable parts... 2
LANCECASPER Posted Tuesday at 03:13 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 03:13 PM I was mainly kidding when I made the comment about Brian Kendrick being vastly overqualified to do the pre-buy on N562BG, with all of the history and all of the logbook red flags. I actually think it was money well-spent for @Firehawk335. Sometimes when that little voice is saying “this is too good to be true, tell me something I don’t know yet and then talk me out of it”, it’s something you hate to hear but need to hear. If that pre-buy is what it took, then it’s money very well spent, especially considering that no one else has jumped in and bought it yet either - although there have probably been a lot of tire-kickers on this one. - - - - The order when I buy an airplane (at least the last few) is first I try to talk to the actual owner - that gives me way more than just the words, but I get a feel for it. Then I comb through the logbooks, which is so much easier now since most sellers realize that they just have to have them scanned and available. Then If I’m still interested I’ll talk it over with someone I trust and get them to be on stand-by for a pre-buy if I pull the trigger. Next I go look at it personally. If everything is in order and the seller is willing I’ll take a few hours and open some inspection panels and see if what I read in the logbooks matches. At this point I’ve bought a few without any further pre-buy, feeling confident that I was making the right decision. A couple times I’ve been on the fence and I’ve gone ahead and had a pre-buy, just to confirm that it was as good as I thought it was. 14 years ago here’s one I went to look (had the logbooks back then have been scanned I never would have made the trip) : In 2011 I could have bought it for $40,000 but to this day I’m very glad I didn’t.
