Mcstealth Posted June 8 Report Posted June 8 Hey floks, I am having a hard time with my ELT loop. The old style 121.5 transmitter works when I click it to "on." I hear the tones on a hand held. The external alarm does not sound off. Change the CR-2 battery. No love. Also the panel mounted "on" button does not activate the ELT in the "armed" position. Put in a new battery in it, and no love. No little red light, no activation. I found a couple of old telephone 4-wire cables. Going to go try them those cables tomorrow. Also make sure I didn't put the batteries in backwards, or reverse the alarm in/out wires. What am I missing? Quote
Brian2034 Posted June 8 Report Posted June 8 Same issue we had in one of our aircraft, a 2 year old ACK ELT with the supplied “telephone” like cable from the ELT to the buzzer failed! Also keep an eye on the remote buzzer you have pictured, in our aircraft the battery was only 2 years old and it had started to leak and corrode the contacts. 1 Quote

For whatever it’s worth, my Ack manual says that it does a one-second transmit on 121.5 during the self-test. So you have to have your radio tuned and squelch open ahead of time, then listen for one second of beep(s)… 1 Quote

N201MKTurbo Posted June 8 Report Posted June 8 Funny thing, I installed an ACK ELT a couple of years ago. When I installed it, I put the label on the remote unit to match the picture on the front page of the install manual. Then I read the text in the body of the manual and the label on the cover was backwards. I wrote an email to ACK tech support and mentioned it to them. I got an email back from the owner of the company. He said they have sold over 4000 of those ELTs and I was the first one to notice the label was backwards. He said they will fix it in the next printing. 2 Quote

Lots of trouble shooting later, and I believe that the remote is the culprit. I talked to ACK tech support. They had me connect the remote direct to the yellow ELT. The remotes LED glowed faintly with the ELT in the "off" position. Turned the ELT on and the LED went bright. The remote would not activate the ELT regardless. Short answer is I am going to change the remote. Also, the tech said that my orange alarm is not compatible with my early edition yellow ELT. Anyone have one of these remotes available? Quote
