Yes, you'll have to follow the metal cable down to the trim mechanism under the floor. You'll see how the cable terminates in a block with a set screw, and that moves with the trim mechanism. I'd recommend using the elevator travel board to set the takeoff position and adjust the cable/indicator to match.

Without the trim boards, you can probably look closely at the bottom of the tail where it slides and see a line where it was set when painted… or use the setting for a landing as your takeoff setting and see how it feels.  Should be close.

Is there any way to adjust the Trim Position Indicator

Or, it might look like this pic…

Or, you could have an issue on the top end.  It’s a round terminal crimped to the Bowden cable wire.  If you take the trim cover off, all the tinnerman nuts in the nose wheel well will fall off.  Get some speed tape and tape them down before removing the screws.

Thanks, and the first picture is under the floor panel, accessed from underneath..guess I'll see it when I remove the belly panels during annual next month..thanks..I had the Indicator housing off to repair it so I know that part isn't affected..

If you trim all the way up and adjust the indicator to the up mark, then all the way down and check the down mark. And adjust the cable to center them, your takeoff indicator will be correct. There is just not a lot of extra adjustment in the system..

The nose up limit is when the hing thingy is stretched out and the nose down limit is when the screw is all the way in. The front gear box stops may be restricting it from getting to those limits. This usually happens from removing the jack screw for servicing and getting the tail and trim wheel out of sync when putting it back together.

In the takeoff trim position, the elevator should be aligned in trail with the horizontal stabilizer. On Js and earlier, the trim assist bungees will hold it there. Set it and adjust the cable to put the indicator in the proper position.
