Invisibleman Posted Thursday at 11:42 PM Report Posted Thursday at 11:42 PM Can anyone tell me if onboard oxygen was a standard feature on the M20k 231 ? Quote
gabez Posted Friday at 12:13 AM Report Posted Friday at 12:13 AM not sure if standard but mine 1984 has it built in. Quote
hubcap Posted Friday at 12:15 AM Report Posted Friday at 12:15 AM I believe all the turbocharged Mooneys had oxygen as standard. Myrtle is a 1982 model and it is built-in. Quote
LANCECASPER Posted Friday at 12:36 AM Report Posted Friday at 12:36 AM I’ve seen a few early 231s without factory oxygen. Quote
Marc_B Posted Friday at 03:52 AM Report Posted Friday at 03:52 AM FWIW on my M20K Encore build sheet, built in oxygen is listed in option equipment column. Quote
Invisibleman Posted Friday at 12:20 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 12:20 PM (edited) Yes it does seem most all have it, but had noticed a few that didn't. Marc, thanks for that build sheet info. Why anyone would want a turbo and no oxygen is beyond me. I am looking at one now that has the oxygen ports blocked off/removed. Reason given, 1), There is some type of "valve" or other component that if it fails, its thousands of $$ to replace, and 2), the required inspection of the system as a whole is very expensive. In this case the outlets are blocked off and tank removed. Wondering what all is involved in piece it back together. The tank bracket is still in place. Marc_B Posted Friday at 03:37 PM Report Posted Friday at 03:37 PM The build sheet at this time was used for both J's and K's. It's certainly possible that it was standard on the K's and optional on the J's?? I don't know the history, so can only speculate based on wording. It is interesting that there are several things on there that you'd think was standard...unless you had a very pared down Mooney off the line. I get a kick that "tachometer" is listed in the optional column as well. But I agree with you @Invisibleman, for me a Mooney without oxygen is like a Mooney without a turbo...I'd rather have both! 1 Quote
hubcap Posted Friday at 07:08 PM Report Posted Friday at 07:08 PM I have the build sheets for Myrtle but I have not reviewed them to that level of detail. If @LANCECASPER has seen them without factory O2 installed that would be good enough for me to consider it definitive. Personally, I cannot understand why one would want a turbocharged engine without O2 available, but it seems some folks are uncomfortable on the O2. I have met people who own turbocharged Mooneys, who will not fly on the O2. They stay down in the altitudes with normally aspirated planes. Quote

I have built in O2 in my N/A F, but use my portable setup exclusively as it’s borderline free to refill (refills are $4 for my portable vs $75 for the FBO to refill my a/c tank). Probably more of a modern times problem where FBOs don’t really want to deal with GA. I almost always cruise 9k-13k and always use my nose plug in cruise. My wife even commented on how much better she feels after a 3-5 hour flight. Quote
Pinecone Posted Saturday at 01:52 PM Report Posted Saturday at 01:52 PM I can't see not flying a turbo up high. I have a Mountain High O2D2, and with that, the tank gets filled during annual, and that is it. And I now have an oxygen concentrator, so when 14K or below, it will supply 2 people. And above 14K, I am on ship's O2, and my pax on the concentrator. 2 Quote
