201er Posted May 22, 2024 Report Posted May 22, 2024 They say "there are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots." What say you? Are you old, bold, or both?
Fritz1 Posted May 22, 2024 Report Posted May 22, 2024 gotten away with more stuff than I want to talk about 1
Shadrach Posted May 22, 2024 Report Posted May 22, 2024 I’ve known many old and bold pilots. I’m not advocating bold behavior. I’m just saying this old axiom does not always fit. The poll needs a 5th option “Not old and no longer bold” 1
N201MKTurbo Posted May 22, 2024 Report Posted May 22, 2024 In my 20s I was a bold pilot. In my 30s I flew a lot including flying into thunderstorms, mountain waves and ice. I’m not bold anymore…… Until you have been in a situation where your survival is uncertain, you are not a seasoned pilot. I hope none of you become seasoned. 6
Hank Posted May 23, 2024 Report Posted May 23, 2024 I'm getting old, and have quit driving so boldly. But I've never flown boldly . . .
hammdo Posted May 23, 2024 Report Posted May 23, 2024 Bold because I fly (some say I’m crazy to do that) old because I don’t let the Bold get into my head ;o) -Don
0TreeLemur Posted May 23, 2024 Report Posted May 23, 2024 Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want (or expect).

Maybe applies here, I have heard it said, ‘Good judgement comes from experience, Experience comes from bad judgment “. 3

Justin Schmidt Posted May 24, 2024 Report Posted May 24, 2024 Let's define old... If you use ellipsis 1 2
Pinecone Posted May 24, 2024 Report Posted May 24, 2024 Old is 15 years older than I am. No matter what age I was or will be. 3
Rick Junkin Posted May 24, 2024 Report Posted May 24, 2024 There's a big difference between bold and stupid. Right? 1

jlunseth Posted May 24, 2024 Report Posted May 24, 2024 I get the point of the saying, but anyone who floats around in the sky on wings is bold. Can’t escape that part. 2
MooneyMitch Posted May 24, 2024 Report Posted May 24, 2024 Am I old? Yes. Was I bold? I don’t believe so. I made it through 50 years of flying. Was I lucky sometimes, probably.
