The Mooney gear is too fast to leave down. If you have a TO engine failure, put the gear down. It will be there by the time you touch down. Also hard on the gear to retract at higher speeds.

Been doing it like that for years. 

Even at my current 5000' home field, by the time I'm at 50', there's precious little usable runway left. At my previous 3000' fields, there was none.

Once you come off the ground, even on a 4000’ runway, there really isn’t enough to stop. Besides. You can stop on the belly skins.
