What is the easiest way to remove the ram air push pull knob and cable from an M20 E

My M20E has a J Cowl and I don't need the ram air control. I want to repurpose that hole in the panel where the cable comes through. What is the easiest way to eliminate the cable and push/pull knob? I don't care if the cable survives. Thanks for replies.

If it isn't connected to anything that it is controlling, just remove the fasteners holding it in and pull it out.   There may be some adele clamps (p-clamps) on the engine side of the firewall, probably a fitting where it comes through the firewall, and then a nut behind it holding it to the firewall.   That'd be my guess, anyway.    I removed mine from my J when we deleted the ram air and removing the cable was pretty straightforward.    It's pretty easy to trace out where it goes and what might be holding on to it.

Start at the far end of the cable and work your way back ensuring everything is free. Then loosen the push pull control from the pane and remove. I am interested in your cable if it’s complete. I would like to have a spare made up.

I still have the one that came out of my J.   The lengths are probably similar, but could be measured.

Thanks. I think it’s a different set up. I believe yours had an over-center mechanism at the door. Early birds like man have a locking cable with a button

Yes, this has no lock, it's just push-pull.

So per usual anunknown pain in the ass.  That is what I figured.   don't know why you would leave that in the plane when the function is gone.  Sigh...

I was afraid someonewas going to say that...No promises Ross, but it is yours if I can extract it without too much hassle.

Remove it as you would as if it was being replaced, ripping, cutting or any other means of removal other than the correct way is just a little crude. Spend the extra time and you’ll thank yourself down the road by not having a bunch of orphaned hardware/parts…. Just my $0.02.. oh wait it’s aviation, make that $0.27….:D

Duly noted RL.  Phoned previous owner.  He thought it was wrapped up on the engine mount.  Only reason is because Ross wants it.  Otherwise, field expedient.

Probably my last post again.  Baggage compartment carpet came out great.  Easy fix on a prop control failure last flight.  Interior nut had came unscrewed.  I was able to twist at cable and reduce RPM.  Always something...

I contorted and made multiple unpretzling to get tools. It’s a no go. Ridiculous amount of nuts and bolts that are impossible to get to with my sockets and tools. Sorry Ross. Scott
