KC-AP Posted August 5, 2022 Report Posted August 5, 2022 Any suggestions on where to find parts for a longeron replacement on a 1964 Mooney C converted to a D? Looks like I am looking for P/N's 3451-1 left stiffener 3451-2 stiffener right 3935-7 longeron, left 3935-8 longeron, right Thank you. Quote
RLCarter Posted August 5, 2022 Report Posted August 5, 2022 Not that it would matter…. It’s an M20-C converted to an M20-D (fixed gear)? Check with a Mooney Service Center and see if the parts are available from the factory and if not Mooney should be able to tell you what alloy was used so they can can be fabricated 1 Quote
Prior owner Posted August 6, 2022 Report Posted August 6, 2022 Call LASAR or another Mooney service center to get the part. It’s an easy one for the factory to make- it comes undrilled. Not a monumental project to replace one on the plane. Are you sure you need both the stiffener and the longeron? Sometimes, it’s just the stiffener (the shorter piece) that is corroded. Quote

I just found some intergranular corrosion on my longeron. Quote

Lionudakis Posted November 3, 2022 Report Posted November 3, 2022 Here’s a close up. About a 6” piece. The rest of it looks fine as does the opposite side longeron. Quote

The extruded longerons that run from the rear bulkhead aft of cargo area to the tail, above the access panel. Quote

Jsno Posted November 3, 2022 Report Posted November 3, 2022 Without going out to my plane and verifying, that looks like it is just an aluminum angle extrusion that you can buy from Aircraft Spruce and splice in a piece per AC 43.13. 2024-T3 Quote

Alan, That was my plan, finding out what to splice it with was step one. The aft most part of the bad area goes into the horizontal former area and is riveted with both horizontal and vertical rivets. (just forward of the rear most bulkhead) so I’ll be peeling back a little bit of the skin, it doesn’t look to bad to do though 1 Quote
