I believe you threw him off in one of your earlier posts in which you mentioned vref as a minimum in the pattern. I think you may have meant on final as vref is certainly too slow for flying around the pattern. The reason is that you should never exceed 15 degrees angle of bank at vref. This is impractical in the pattern but just fine on final as you should never need to exceed 15 degrees angle of bank on final. Vref is a good compromise between being too close to stall speed, and too fast to land in the touchdown zone. That’s all there is to it. Not a big mystery, but you definitely don’t want 30 degrees AOB at Vref. I like vref and 20 (95 +or -) till I roll out on final.
