Possibly, heard today the restriction is on "newer models", and that on Garmin side, it's the G3X and GFC150 they need approval for, and that they are estimating end of year to get approval. 

I'm checking with CEIS to see what their plan is for the fuel senders. Will start a separate thread.

Hopefully you're thinking about the GFC500 (King made a KFC150). , , , ,  and of course KFC made both original recipe and extra crispy.

Ah yes, GFC500. I love to rant about the KFC150 we currently have, but then again, beats hand flying.

Just emphasizing what a couple of others said: the G3x Touch will not provide attitude information to the KAP 150. You could keep your attitude indicator to make the AP work with the G3x Touch, but that's a real disadvantage.

I went with the G3X touch because it provides much better situational awareness. The whole synthetic vision setup is very nice, showing terrain, traffic, obstacles, and airports all rendered on the big display. But, I was planning to replace my KAP 150 anyway. I figured I'd rather remove it while it's working and sell it as working used parts (they're worth quite a bit!).

@Brian E. why didn’t you integrate the engine instruments into the G3x? We are looking at a similar setup, but we have a MVP-50 in the aircraft already.

@BlueMoon I have an MVP50 as well and upgraded to G500TXi. I kept my MVP. I like having this separate and not taking up real estate on the TXi. But I’m sure you’d get used to whatever you have.  I think my screen sizes and locations just “fit” together better for me and I was happy with the finished panel. It’s nice not having to do it all / fit it all on a single screen.

Why spend money to integrate if you’re happy with the functionality of your current engine monitor?

Sometimes you’ll find minor irritations if you don’t fully integrate display types from one brand.  My example is jpi/garmin and the oat temp probe… you need two temp probes if you want the temp on your engine instruments and TAS/winds displayed on your pfd if you’re using a jpi as primary and a g5/g3x.  If you go all garmin, it will share it within the system from one probe.  I suspect there are similar limitations with fuel quantity, fuel flow, and warnings.

Why would you even consider doing that?  If there is one thing I wouldn't give up it's the MVP-50.  It provides more information of the types I'm looking for than any engine monitor out there.  The EIS takes up valuable screen real estate, has smaller characters, and doesn't provide much of the information I want including a separate register to give me trip fuel used that resets automatically on engine startup.

The one advantage of Garmin EIS is that you now have log files with everything.  Flight info and engine info.

Personally, I would go with the G3X and GTN-650Xi combo.   And later, down the road, you can add a second 650 or a 750.

From everything I have read, the GFC-500 is worth every penny.

I currently have a KAP-150 with KAS-297B altitude preselect.  The system works well, except the KAS will not work at all when it gets over heated.

I also have the KAS, but had not heard of this failure mode.  What causes it to overheat, and what behaviors does it exhibit?

It was looked it by Mid Continent, and they stated it needed some capacitors replaced.  The cost was higher than I wanted to spend, as an upgrade to GFC-500 was planned.

It gets over heated in the summer with the plane sitting in the sun without the sun shields (lunch stop).

The display either flickers (mainly off) or there is just no display.  And it does not work to set VS or an altitude to capture.  AP still holds altitude, but you have to manually hit ALT when you reach your desired altitude.

If the flight is long enough, it typically cools off and starts working again.
